Monsoon Stafford to close.

I'm amazed Monsoon / Acsessorisze as a whole is still going - I've only ever brought 2 dresses from there (and a handful of things from Accsessorize) - a bridesmaid's dress and my wedding dress, and that was in the sale - they can have some lovely things, but at a premium price that put them out of reach for most people.

I agree with this - I do like Monsoon's stuff but it is so expensive. We seemed to have a lot more money about ten years ago, and I bought a few sale items for the children then, but although they looked lovely to start with, they didn't last long as they were so flimsy.

I'm going to wildly speculate. Did I read somewhere that the Guildhall had another retailer lined up yet to be announced? A new Monsoon/Accessorize store perhaps?

"Soon"

Millets has been To Let for ages too. I suspect they stick around until they find someone to let out/sell the property to.

They say they are moving into the furniture shop opposite. But it seems a long time coming.

There are enough people in Stafford and the surrounding areas with money to spend but unfortunately there is nowhere in Stafford to spend it. Personally, if I want to buy a nice dress or a special outfit then I have to go to Birmingham.
I agree that not everyone has cash to splash, but for those that do...where to go?

I'm sad to read this. I buy a lot of items in Monsoon. This only really leaves Wallis for me now since Next seem to have employed Stevie Wonder to design their womens' clothes. Meh :crossarms:

Yes totally agree, where to go now in Stafford if you're over a certain age? Even Marks and Spencer have employed Stevie Wonder as their buyer.

Monsoon/Accessorise have been in trouble for a while. They have realised that the market for both shops are different and therefore they want to close 140 shops with dual branding to concentrate on individual brands. (This doesn't explain the closing of the Stafford branch however because they are separate shops, not dual branding.)

Just noticed a to let board placed above the Monsoons unit in town, so that'll be another national brand leaving the high street soon. It's also a bit more unfortunate, as unlike when Burton n the like moved, this one isn't being placed in another store.
Just to set the record straight once and for all, there are no current plans to close Monsoon in Stafford. The to let sign is there because the lease is currently up for negotiation and the landlord is well within his rights to put one up

I found the plans for the riverside place the other day, and monsoons where meant to be going there anyway, so maybe they'll move over in the near future .

That'll be the same kind of negotiating tactic that failed with another national chain in the town - Starbucks.

Surely some rent is better than empty and no rent?

So it may close?

I saw a 9 year old photo last week, I still wear that t-shirt!
I still have a number of shirts in my wardrobe, that go back to my early 20's!
I am 54!!!!! My son 19 wears a denim Levis shirt, (when I let him!) which is of that era! It was 2nd hand when I purchased it, and though the collar is a bit frayed and stained it is otherwise in pretty good nick 30 years on! I am a hoarder! I get some grief from 'er indoors'! ;)
