Empty building? Guess than means the council will have to demolish it before it gets vandalised and set on fire. How much has this farce cost the taxpayer?

Well done bigbluewolf.

A definitive answer to your straight question.

Pity our local lazy journalists who write for the local papers could not have asked the question and published the fact rather than the garbled mess that they presented in this weeks papers.

I don't think the journalists are just lazy, I think they are also under trained, over stretched, and lacking in resources

A country without strong journalism at every level is a dangerous situation . History has told us this

Relying on SoshullMedia and ClickBait magnifies that danger

BBC Breakfast 'NEWS' as mentioned elsewhere is drivel for masses. Feed them a line and watch them spin into distraction. Politicians love the public - we are short on attention and easily...ooh..look...shiny things!

Morrison's interim results are due on 15th September, maybe all will become clearer then. I guess we are in a period of purdah for Morrison's as far as financial figures are concerned?

The whole sorry story can be followed on Google news:

https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=m...ved=0ahUKEwjRgtTPxd3OAhWHVhoKHeJ8AzoQ_AUICigD

Myself I think it's been fairly obvious since 25th January 2015 that Morrison's were not going to take the site. They were so clear in their non-commitment:

http://www.staffordshirenewsletter....espite-store/story-25913560-detail/story.html

One of the two transactions referred to is Morrison's paying to surrender their 25 lease that was signed several years ago. http://www.propertymall.com/property-news/article/27407-Kingsmead,-Stafford

Just as SCC have paid the National Trust £20m to surrender the 50 year remaining lease on Shugborough.

the articles make no reference to ' morrisons surrendering their lease'

There is not a single article that uses the words ' morrisons have surrendered their lease'

All articles mention 'LXB surrendering their leasehold interest with morrisons'

this implies to me Morrisons still have a lease but LXB no longer hold the leasehold interest in that property as they given it up as part of the development sale.

The least ambiguous article written by an actaual business news media, on this implies Morrisons now hold the leasehold interest on the unit.

in fact could this mean morrisons can lease it themselves if it is the case. Hence why they have a alcohol license ???

What same, lazy copying and paste reporting as the snoozeletter? No chasing/ confirming any facts nor investigative journalism.

are the websites spouting a different story who specialise in business news better informed and read into what such statements (LXB) actually mean ?????
I was only asking!

Anyway, Morrisons Twitter team have confirmed to me that the store is NOT opening. Previously they have been non-committal either way.

The news has hit Radio Stoke today. Could still be speculation, but the evidence is mounting...

Why was a separate thread created for this? We have a Morrison's thread already.

Anyone else amazed that a company of the size of Morrisons would release important news on twitter?
No.

And it wasn't released on Twitter, but it was confirmed on Twitter.

Previously the Morrisons Twitter team had been non-committal with their replies about the proposed Stafford store. The reply I received has been the most definite reply from them about it.

According to insider media Morrisons will still be on site after the sale of the land to Triple Jersey is completed.

it claims it is Morrisons who have taken on the leasehold interest from LXB

The above is the first post here - I took it to be an affirmation that Morrisons were going ahead with the store, despite the doubts that many on here have been expressing for the last few years.

This was the first post that several including insider media and Gareth have interpreted in a totally different way to the Newsletter, Express and Star, the Leader of Stafford Borough Council and now Radio Stoke. It is ambiguous. But it depends on how you define Leasehold interest. LXB had the Freehold Interest, sold it on to Triple Jersey. IMHO Morrison's have paid to surrender the Leasehold interest. The leasehold interest being the right to temporarily occupy the building for 25 years, with I believe a 20 years break clause. They will have paid handsomely for this, but may be cheaper than running a loss making store for 20 years?

But the LXB statement didn't say the Stafford store was being scrapped, which is what the twitter response said. This bloke should be able to tell us the truth.
