Moving to Stafford?

Hi guys,

Me and my partner are looking to move out of the ever declining area of Great Barr in Birmingham. We've looked at a couple of houses around Eccleshall and it seems lovely, but there's nothing like insider information from the locals!
I've noticed for one that the school system is a 3 tier system? Much different to what we have here..... is this a pro does anybody think? I have a little boy who will be starting school in September so im very curious.

Any information or advice anybody could give me would be great!

Thank you in advance x

If you can afford Ecce I'm sure you will enjoy it

Not much in common with the Scott Arms in Ecce

You may end up with a child going to Graham Balfour in a few years time ( in Stafford)
Alumni include a Premier League footballer

If one of you is due to commute to Birmingham be prepared for a forty minute crush on the train or a soul destroying communute on the M6. The price of peace

Stone may also be a consideration. Even Shrewsbury

Good luck!

Thread Hijack Warning

Quick question... Which rental company have the most residential houses on their books in town?

My partner is a regional sales manager so he travels all over so the travel isn't so much a problem. It's just daunting choosing a new area, I'm sure every county has areas that are a bit rough and I'd hate to pick one by accident just because I didn't know the area well or do any research

You'll be fine in Ecce. Maybe avoid a property on the High Street , some of the period ones are beautiful but it's choked with traffic

Eccleshall is nice and has good connections to the M6.

Down side is lack of public transport if you haven't both got your own cars.

There are also a lot of other nice villages around Stafford but avoid the East side unless you like watching HS2 trains.

Or the ghosts of them

hi responded to a similar thread yesterday. There are some super villages around Stafford and the schools are excellent if you are comparing against Birmingham. Motorway connections are going to be important so I'd look at villages/areas around the main junctions. Stafford town centre is often grid locked so I would recommend avoiding if you need to get anywhere in a hurry. I live in a village just off junction 13 and to be honest for us its been fab simply because of the motorway accessibility. Even when the motorway is blocked our location has still meant we are not caught in the main town centre grid lock. We are also fortunately to be in the catchment of amazing primary schools and are quite frankly spoilt for choice. The village where i live does have coach travel to the high school provided by the local authority and the bus collects the kids each day free of charge. The downside of living in a village is lack of public transport it is dire around here. It is very much a very different way of life but for the kids much better and safer. Hope that helps

It’s not all three tier - stafford town is two tier, Stone is three, so it really depends where you end up!

Hi,

Thank you for this! What area do you live in if you don't mind me asking? My partner drives and I'm learning to drive at the moment so I suppose the public transport wouldn't be a big issue.

That's good to hear about the schools as the main reason we want to move is because the violence is slowly increasing in Birmingham (and it was never great to begin with!) especially with us having a young child it's just not somewhere that I want him to grow up.

Woodseaves is cheap but there's bugger all here. Very quiet and handy for Eccleshall and M6 though.

I believe Seighford has a 'good' school

I'm sure these stats are available online , but anecdotal evidence suggests it's more than that

Seighford isn't too far from Ecce or Stafford

You'll get lots of villages with good schools. Church Eaton has a good school but no shop, only a pub...

Penkridge OK, has shops, pubs, assorted primary schools, a middle school & an upper school, access to M6 J12 & J13, a railway station ... Anyone any thoughts on Haughton or Gnosall? Villages east of Stafford have a longer run to the M6 & railways.

I grew up in Haughton and lived in Gnosall. Both are nice villages although Haughton is a little overcrowded now with so many new houses.

Gnosall has a number of decent pubs and a few shops with bigger supermarkets in Newport or Stafford.

Both villages are easily commutable by car and there is a bus service during the day.

Gnosall is growing quite rapidly, it's not really a village any longer. Going west means you can pick up the M6 at junction 12 for southbound journeys.

I guess what is your budget?

I would say Hyde Lea and coppenhall would be ideal for what you are looking for.

Of all the places to randomly relocate to I have no idea why anyone with a choice would choose Stafford!
