Went out yesterday, well was forced to go out as Spawn2 needs bus money for college next week. Home Bargains and Tesco in Willenhall. I did not enjoy. Was busy, I had an anxiety attack, barely bought anything in Home Bargains for the sake of having to carry it across to Tesco. Tesco was busy, had a lot of empty shelves and freezers and was expensive. Only good bit was I got the cash we needed and managed to grab some mince so we can have a chilli later. I'm in no rush to go back there.

So at work today this happened, hopefully it will appear somewhere on Facebook and reach the lovely young couple who helped out, the highways worker was Trying to pay with his phone, but sometimes it just wants the actual card... Which he didn't have with him, there really are some amazing and generous people here in Stafford...

"A massive thank you to the lovely young couple who were in Sainsburys Stafford earlier today on Sunday, and paid for a highways workers shopping when he had forgotten his card. Such a generous gesture for a stranger, and I hope you're both paid back 10 fold, there really are some amazing people in Stafford x"

So today I planned to meet friends in Number 3 for late lunch but whilst waiting for my bus on the Stone Road 4 or 5 emergency response vehicles shot past with blues and twos on.

Turned out there was a potential jumper on top of Barclays and the whole of Market Square was sealed off.

Ended up accessing Number 3 via the fire exit and then walking via the Rose and Crown to get to the Bear.

Hope whoever it was was brought down safely.

it was lunchtime.
Then he should have been open anyway.
Canalside pubs were doing a roaring trade in the mid 1970s, the Anchor at High Offley having three beers rather than one for example, as boating holidays were very popular and most taking them treated them as a week's pub crawl.
For the one I went on in with seven friends in late October 1980, hardly the height of the season, we didn't need to think which pubs might or might not be open as without exception if it was lunchtime or evening they were open and if it was afternoon they were closed.
So called "all day opening" has got a lot to answer for.

Getting ready to drive up to family in Stourbridge. Then I'll leave my car there and tomorrow get a train into Brum and then up to Liverpool (I should pass through Stafford) to the AGM of the Radio Officer's Association in the Liner Hotel by Lime Street. Basically it's a 3 day piss up for ex seafaring Radio and Electronics Officers. I can't really handle heavy drinking anymore so I'll have to sit at the back and keep quiet
Then on Thursday back down to Stourbridge for the night and Friday morning drive home, stopping off at Barnstaple for a CT scan !!

It's like living your whole life over in one week !!! :embarrass:

Part of Stafford town centre had to be cordoned off and police negotiators were called in after a man was spotted on the roof of a building. Police, ambulance and fire crews were all called to the Market Square area of the town centre.

The man was on the roof for around three hours yesterday, Sunday, April 24, before coming down. Officers from Staffordshire police attended, alongside Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, along with paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service.

A cordon was put in place around the Market Square in Stafford while the incident was happening from around 1.30pm. It was later in the afternoon when the man, who has not been named, came down from the roof, said a police spokesman.

A 32-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance and remains in custody, said a police spokesman. He said: "At 1.30pm on April 24, police were called to Market Square in Stafford following reports of a man on a roof.

"Colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and specialist teams including negotiators attended. A cordon was put in place as a precaution.

"At around 4.20pm the man safely came down from the roof and was detained by officers. A 32-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance and using threatening/abusive/insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment/alarm/distress. He remains in custody at this time."

A spokesperson from West Midlands ambulance service said: "We were called to reports of concern for a patient’s welfare in Market Square at 1.31pm on Sunday, April 24. An ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team attended the scene. On arrival we discovered a male patient who, once brought to safety, was assessed and discharged at the scene."

It is not clear which building the man had climbed on to, but there were comments on social media saying it was the the town's Guildhall shopping centre.

I just assumed it was Jock playing his bagpipes on the roof again
