My best mate from school is a great grandparent, I cannot imagine myself in such a situation.

When son was doing his Geography degree dissertation , he was interviewing residents in the locality. He talked of interviewing a range of ages to get a mixture of views, including some really old people ,including his mates 'Great gran' . I was imagining a little old lady sitting knitting in her rocking chair, in her curlers and bloomers. Turns out she was 56...4 years younger than me at the time :o

Got up again at 4.30am. Stumbled about stubbing toes on furniture, whose parentage I called into question in 90 decibel terms. Went outside to see a fully overcast sky. On the way back to bed managed to stub any surviving toes I'd missed going in.
I was minded of that song 'Send in the Clowns.' Seemed appropriate to my efforts to catch an Orionids meteor … in particular the last line:

Well maybe next year ….

In a bit of a dilema :hmm: Do I be brave and go on the Heart Start course that I've got the opportunity to attend, and learn how to possibly save a life in the future?
Risking looking a right idiot , with my knees playing up at the moment, not being able to get back up off the floor ? (Checked with son who's done all the first aider courses for work, and he said all his resusitation stuff was done kneeling down .... )

Or do I give it a miss this time , despite sons "You'll be fine mum!" ? May regret not going if I suddenly find myself on the end of the phone to the emergency services being talked through how to do CPR and not being able to do it properly :hmm:

Yeah do it. If nothing else you might be in a position to advise someone who doesn't know in a bad situation.
Just wish hubby would go with me, he's done first aid training at work but not the defibrillator training so could have been useful for him as well. But he's flatly refused , so I'll have to be super brave turning up on my own .
Right, after your words of encouragement ....Decided to dose the knees up with Ibuprofen, and get the courage to get myself through those doors at the weekend......someone might be thankful for those 2 hours spent learning how to hopefully keep their heart going until professional help arrives .

Do it. I've been that person on the end of the phone not knowing what to do, & it's horrible.

Yes do it.
It's such a valuable thing to do.
We raised money to have a defibrillator fitted in our village a few years ago and we invited the villagers to attend a heartstart course.
About 40 people turned up, of all ages and all agreed that they now felt confident to attend someone who had collapsed.
Quite a few people turned up one their own so don't worry about that at all.

I've done first aid courses that involved kneeling and struggled to get back up with my gammy right leg.

I've used my training twice in real life since and glad I spent the time and effort to complete the training.

I've not done a defrib course but will do if the opportunity arises.

As said before you may be able to talk someone through to help someone else so definitely worth it.

Just checked my bank account to make sure that I have been correctly charged for using the Dartford crossing at the weekend and didn't realise I'd actually been to Ireland and not Kent.

I don't even recall using the Dublin Area Rapid Transit, must have been some weekend :)
