Had my hopes and dreams splattered :( Got serious about going back to college, then found out how much the fees are. Can't do a loan so guess I'll not be going. Wish I'd not bothered thinking about it now :'(

Unfortunately the Gov have cut funding for pretty much anyone over 19, no idea how anyone is expected to retrain :(

This really annoys me that people who are passionate about learning and what to retrain - have to walk away because of the cost!

The under 19's at college are there because the government says they have to be - not because they are eagerly lapping up the free information! (Although I don't want to tar all with the same brush!)

I know so many people who flunked school - now sorely regret it - but can't get back into education because of the fees.

It seems you already have to be earning a significant amount of money to be able to improve yourself and learn!

Which completely defeats the point!

Rant over!

I couldn't believe how expensive it was, almost £3000 then I'd have uniform, equipment and travel on top of it. For the next level which to be honest, if I had any chance of getting a really good job afterwards I'd have to do it, was another almost £5000. I can't justify that kind of expense it would take years of saving and by then the fees would have gone up. I'm in enough debt without taking on all of that :( No point trying to wing it, industry is so swamped by applicants it just skims the top off each time. I'm just not physically capable of going back to doing what I am qualified for now. Don't know what to do now.

I did have some good news however, saw a specialist yesterday and depending on whether a test shows I'm suitable, they are going to have a good go at fixing my second biggest health problem, if it doesn't work they will do the op that will 100% fix it, forever :D So they say at the moment anyway lol

Sadly after posting my dismay on fb, it may have cost me a friend. She was all ''Get a loan, get a loan, learning is totally worth it. My hubby was all ''Are you crazy? There is no guarantee her ankle can cope with it to gamble that kind of money!''
Then it turned into a fight with each side accusing the other of not supporting me, one side saying you just want to hold her down, the other saying we can't get into that much debt for a gamble and you aren't helping by saying she should. Long story short, friend is now upset angry says things are now difficult between us so things we should have some distance, hubby is upset and angry that he was accused of not supporting me/ doing enough to help the family and that my friend has tried to put me in this position.
I'm upset with them both for putting me in the middle like that. With hubby for having a row with my friend and with my friend for acting the way she has and know playing the wounded soldier with all of her other friends surrounding her going oh poor thing, nasty man, bad people and i'm the bad guy too because he's my hubby.
Honestly it's like a couple of kids, but it's still left me with an acquaintance instead of a friend and that nasty feeling you get when something has gone wrong and there is sweet fa you can do about it.

I'm sorry I mentioned it now :(

I don't know what it is your planning to study but am wondering if it is worth speaking to the collage and seeing if you could do the course in bite size parts or in evening classes. My daughter had the same problem when she wanted to become an accountant. In her case she spoke to her employers who sponcered her to do night school. Took 7 years that way but she was able to stay employed while doing it.

It was catering, I wanted finish off my level 3 so I could do level 4 and go more into the management side or move sideways into a different part of the industry. Going to have to completely retrain now it seems. They don't seem to do it as a part time course.

Where is the news? Turned the tv on for BBC news & its been hijacked by footie again! Does no news happen when there's a football match on? Grrrrrr.

Probably more news happens when the Footie is on. Governments in particular have a history of burying bad news when the lousy excuse for the News media is looking the other way.

Ah Blackpool, dancing on the tables in the beer Keller, being told to behave by the bouncer, beer in stein's when I was used to pint jars, fried breakfasts the next morning at the B&B, running to the loo to be "ill", great memories!
