Does anyone else think they should be dressed in long black robes and be accompanied by ominous, sinister and menacing music? Or is that just me :strange::teef:

Enjoying a drop of red.
My personal experience of OFSTED inspectors (not HMI) is that they grossly exaggerate what little achievements they had when they were teachers themselves.

You know what's really annoying? Today I did 10 hours, tomorrow I expect similar, all next week i know I'll do 2 hours extra minimum every day. Most people think sod the teachers, they get loads of time off. Whilst this in itself is bullshit, I will never teach again as it's not worth it, being a member of support staff means I still get shit I just don't get the holidays.

New job required, anyone need a database bloke / Web person? I'm resigned to the fact I'll need to commute to get proper pay now, not looking forward to it though.

It must be in the air @tek-monkey although my problem is just the opposite - my zero hours job has given me ZERO hours since June...time for something new I think!

I was up at 4.30 - full of head cold too - Ive since realised that neither my 2 cats or my middle son are in....dirty stop outs!

There is so much data now required in teaching the admin side is a full time job in itself, I went into teaching because of the kids and I love my subject, however it seems nowadays it is more about the intervention, when little jonny doesn't make expected progress you have to have your answers ready and the answer cannot be lack of progress due to poor attendance as the question is what did you do about it?

Hope they are least paying you for the extra time you are putting in.

As for commuting, well you never know what might turn up on your doorstep when you are ready to look for it. Even if you do have to commute, Brum is only 30 mins by train plus the walk to the station. My last job working for someone else involved a 90 minute drive each way and then usually a further 3 or 4 hours a day driving to see clients.

You could also work for yourself. Goodness knows there's a shortage of anything approaching decent web/database guys round here who can be relied upon and actually do a good job. Most days you could work from home.

Whatever you decide to do, hope you get what you want :)

Time in lieu is all we've been offered, hence there being no IT department over the weekend. TBH if it wasn't my responsibility to manage a system we bought in that has been nowt but trouble I wouldn't be here either, but if we get a bad result I'm determined it wont be down to me or the data I provide. Some of that data is wrong at source but thats not my problem, as long as my side does what it needs to. Can't fix everything!

As for the new job, I desperately need to retrain. Most of my work is MSSQL/ORACLE but using classic ASP on the user side. Everybody wants .Net nowadays so need to retrain myself then get a bit of experience on the job here before I can realistically make the jump. Got my CBT booked in for next Saturday though so at least I'll be mobile again, hoping that will give me a push.

Having a rant....................Vowed never to go in the Wildwood Co-op again if I can help it!
Being back from uni for the weekend ,son was doing his shop for his flat of 8 and took along his NUS card, clearly stating 'Sponsored by the Co-op and 10% off Co-op food stores for NUS card holders '. (NUS have also sent out e-mails saying 10% off at all Co-op stores )
It is gladly honoured in Worcester where they shop for bits and bobs ,so he was gobsmacked when the Wildwood store refused to honour it with a "This store doesn't participate!"
The jumped up supervisor wouldn't fetch the store manager as "Another student with a NUS card has already spoken to him the other day when they were refused discount ....he wouldn't give them the discount , so he'll say the same to you! "

We left the £97.00 trolley of goods at the check-out and walked out.Saved a hell of a lot of money buying the same shop at Home Bargains and Asda afterwards. Should have done that in the first place!

Co-ops loss, we will no longer be spending £1000's as they have had off us in the past just through convenience. Going to stick to Home Bargains/B&M/Poundstretcher and Asda in future!

I live in the soon to be co-op triangle (Stone road / Holmcroft / First Avenue) but I don't find their prices very competitive, luckily for them neither are Tesco Express or they'd have had some competition! I tend to get most of my essentials from Home Bargains as they are usually half the price of the 2 local shops. We do use the shop on Marston Road at the footy ground end though, they are priced no worse than Tesco/Co-op and I don't mind supporting locals.

Oh yeah, after 2 years of not moving and having 3 year old fuel in the tank my motorbike starts! The fuel is crap obviously, its very flakey when you use the accelerator, but I'll drain it off and get some more in and it should be ready for its MOT (apart from the front brake light switch that is sticking anyway).

That's good news :)

Our cars warning light came on last night as I drove son back to Worcester. Appeared by West Brom so, me being me, thinks keep going.........at least get son back there with all his piles of stuff and try to make it back home again. Green Flag to the rescue when I reached our drive as the bloody engine wouldn't switch off and was roaring away for the hour it took them to arrive.
Booked into the garage for tomorrow ...more unexpected expense!

(Was so relieved the car kept limping along as , in the pitch black in the countryside, I saw a road sign saying 'Blind people' and scared myself thinking about the black eyed child of Cannock Chase lol)

NUS Extra have never said that ALL Co-Operative Shops accept NUS Extra, there have always been a number of areas that don't accept it.
From the NUS Extra Website:
Discount excludes 860 stores within the following Co-operative socieities:

Heart of England
Chelmsford
Channel Islands
Seaton Valley
Radstock
Penrith
Tamworth
Allendale
Wooldale
Clydebank
East of England
Lincolnshire
Coniston

However, Central England was in the scheme, but for some bizarre reason all 'Central England' Co-Operative retracted the NUS offer.

NUS Extra Website said:
Following Central England Co-operative Society's decision to retract the NUS extra discount offer, please find a list of the non-participating stores in the midlands and your nearest alternative, Co-operative Group owned store, that is still offering the discount.

Why cant life be simple? In one week middle son has been promoted & husband has 2 job offers - the job offer he got today was the one he wanted....back in management after a horrible year of redundancy & agency work....

Brilliant....until the car blew up on the way home.

So again, sorry to the members of the public that I scared by jumping out of the smoking car & dragging the small child with me while leaving husband to fend for himsglf at the Aztec cycles lights!

Oh yeah & just to add to it, I stuck my hands in a load of dog poo in the afternoon too!

I poked at a bit of rust in the battery compartment on my van last week, large chunks of rust fell out, I saw the floor and the wheel and the battery looked like it was going to commit suicide through the hole! Today AA silencers replaced all the rotten metal, nice job done, thanks.
