Nearest beach/seaside to Stafford?

Worth saying that the retail park is the far side of town from the beach, the buildings aren't any taller than others around them iirc and are built of bricks rather than big tin sheds.

Other towns could learn from their planning department.

I've never been when its ever been crowded and that's been different times of the year.

We went to LLandudno over a gloriously sunny bank holiday weekend and our hotel was right by the pier. Plenty of people there and lots going on , but not too crowded to be unenjoyable and lots of different places to walk and explore. Felt a safe resort and most of the pubs were so child and dog friendly. It was our first visit there but will definitely be back. Now know for next time there is a more gradual climb up the Great Orme than the steepest route we took , we followed the tram lines up and back again- boy was that steep !)

Never done the great orme ashamed to say, as I've been there many times, definitely something I need to do next time.

For speed and convenience I definitely say Wallasey. Quick to get to. Not far / fast roads. You'll get nice beaches, penny arcade and an ice-cream too. Not overly commercialised either so I doubt it will be as rammed with kids as other places. Just got back from a weeks holiday myself (hence the late thread join), but other side of the country... Mablethorpe. Lovely - but too far for a day trip!!

Hope the weather holds out for you, got some interesting clouds coming. Wherever you end up enjoy, I'm jealous! Unless it's Rhyl of course.

I'd say Llandudno or nearby Rhos then. TBH I'd say Llandudno has the better seaside 'experience' as such, but I personaly prefer the harbour at Rhos. We've often nipped to the aforementioned chippy then eaten them sat on the wall watching the sea. I'd say hit Llandudno as your main aim, then see how the mood takes you? If its not what she's after, move on a bit. After Rhos is the arcades at Towyn too, so on your way back.

Avoid Rhyl like a teenage whore from Rugely with facial herpes, you have been warned. Let no amount of nostalgia tempt you in, try not to look as you drive through it.

So, we drove all the way to Rhos/Colwyn in the blazing heat a few weeks ago and didn't find all this nice stuff you're on about...Where to park? How far is the nice chippy? Had to abort as we were all too hot and unsure whether the dog would be welcome up the street in search of food. Was a bit of a let down really through our own lack of knowledge.

Parking I can't help with I'm afraid, as I don't drive. I suspect all the parking in Llandudno is towards the back of town, as they don't want it to spoil the seafront.

The nice chippy I mentioned was in Rhos, I linked to it on google maps. I have no idea where the Llandudno one mentioned is, as again they mentioned driving and I don't.

IIRC there are restrictions on dogs on the actual beach, but they are allowed on the front as I've seen hundreds. Also seen them throughout town, but not sure what you'd do with them if you went indoors? (EDIT: Look here http://www.nearestbeach.co.uk/dog-friendly/)

Its a shame you didn't get to enjoy your trip, Llandudno really is a nice town to visit.

We recently went to Old Colwyn and LLandudno and there is plenty of free parking right on the front.

There is only two parts of the beach where dogs are not allowed and that is clearly marked so plenty of room for the dog to run, ours went mad and she is ten years old!

LLandudno has some free parking near the lovely new paddling pool area but not sure about dogs on the beach.

The chip shop at Rhos is on a street that runs parallel to the prom and they can't stop you taking dogs on the street.

Enochs chippy is not actually in LLandudno but is in LLandudno Junction near the station.

We went there on our recent visit and my only complaint is that they were selling Oasis through the take away but wouldn'r sell it to you if you were using the Cafe. pettiness like that drives me mad and I would have walked out if I had been on my own!

We had a gret day and will be going back soon, try it again you might like it but then again it might not be your cup of tea.

db did you get to go to the seaside and if you did where did you go and did you enjoy it?

no - after all that we didn't go in the end! the forecast was for rain & thunder, so we thought a beach trip was out of the question and settled for breakfast in bed, lazy morning, then a shopping trip.. of course, the day turned out to be a blinder and was back up to 30° by about 15:00 so we wished we'd gone after all - typical :grr:

still, we stopped off at the chetwynd arms on the way home from our day out and had lovely beer battered fish & chips in the sunshine, and were both off work the following day, so it wasn't all bad..

thanks for wealth of information in this thread though, everyone - we'll defo be using it next time the opportunity presents itself! llandudno it is, i reckons

On the way back from Cornwall today we called in at Weston Super Mare to see if it had changed any from the dump it was about 10 years ago when the last time I went there. Well there are still some tatty bits and it does help when the sun is shining, but I was impressed with the improvements to the promenade. The rebuilt Grand Pier is impressive although anyone looking for peace and quiet might be looking in the wrong place. A number of buildings have been spruced up such as the Winter Gardens and a large Weatherspoons on the front.
As for distance it's about 130 miles pretty much all on the motorway and we got back in 2 hours but bear in mind we were fortunate not to have delays in Bristol or M5/M6 area.

Was the spoons done out like a ship in the bar area? Remember a really nice one down that way, think it was weston.

Was a bit of a flying visit, trying to find clean toilets (in the shopping centre) is harder than you think, fish and chips then a walk round the pier soon eats up the 2 hour parking ticket

Anyone got a view on where dogs can go in/around Llandudno? Specifically the beach?
Think dogs are allowed on the part of the beach between the pier and the lifeboat ramp. Or is it the other way round? Either way, it's well signed.

Pretty sure the bit closest to the pier was no dogs, at least during the summer. Like you say though its well signposted.

I am currently at Aberdovey, no dogs April to september here.
