Nearest beach/seaside to Stafford?

It's certainly not a day-trip resort, but for great beaches where dogs are welcome look no futher than pembrokeshire. Loads of beaches (bar two) where dogs are welcome on at least part of the beach. Freshwater West, Newgale and Marloes are all awesome in the massive empty beach category, with little cafe's, loos and parking (often free). Highly recommended.

We are thinking of going to Barmouth for a couple of days, Me, the current Mr littleme & 8/9yr old daughter.

Having not been before is there anything ya'll would recommend doing or seeing? We will go by car, so dont mind upto an hour or so traveling if theres something worth seeing.

*We as a family are quite boring, not really into fairs, arcades or theme parks - but we like castles, beaches, museums, animals & walking.

Thank you :)

And of course you could walk the beaches of Shell island while you are there too :)

Keeping an eye out for Age'd Parent.

I've always intended to go to Portmeirion, but haven't made it yet - watching The Prisoner again last year rekindled the intention..

..I await your verdict and my stick of rock..

Be seeing you.

Triple Boooooo :(

I'm in the area on Sat/Sun doing some photography on the Talyllyn Railway (I'm a member and soon to be volunteer) - I managed to get in but I was only after a single room for 1 night

We only want 3/4 nights, who thought it would be so difficult!
Searching the WHOLE of Wales now....

Sneak 'em in with you....?

Worth a try :)

It is a challenge sadly - I always struggle as well, think I got lucky finding a single room. I am lucky in that I have friends in North Wales and can stay with them, but it's not really fair to drop in too often

I keep trying to find someone who owns a caravan in the area and may let me use it occasionally :)

How about camping? I have considered it as an option before

I'd vote camping too - but getting the kit together if you don't already have it can be cost prohibitive, and even then finding a campsite, with space (many don't take bookings) can be a nightmare - Good luck in finding something

Camping can end up as the only viable/affordable option in these sorts of circumstances.

Unfortunately this will inevitably involve camping - a hateful activity at the best of times.

When camping there are, of course, no 'best of times' - but there are ways of making it not quite the worst of times. It is definitely worth 'being prepared' and all that.

As ^Wormella alludes to above, making it 'not-quite-as-shit' involves the acquisition of certain 'things' -' things' that can alleviate the inherent 'shit-ness' of camping. What those 'things' are is surely worthy of a dedicated thread ...

I'm not sure it's worth a thread of its own, but either way, this would be near the top of my list. I've had mine since 1999 and whilst it's a bit rickety, it's still giving good service.

We have a caravan near Barmouth, but I doubt it's much use for people that don't like camping. It's a tourer rather than static so not that large, and the site it's on is a farmers field with no electricity. And we've not had the gas checked so don't use it, and no running water. Lovely views though, I like to think of it as hardshell camping :D
