Other concerns seemed to be the environmental change aspects ...

With the woodland the other side of the stream and the expanse of Wildwood Park i think it would be difficult to use this as an argument against - though i wonder whether the stonking great tree in the middle of it has a TPO on it? Probably not but worth finding out. Given that this land was being farmed until relatively recently i can't think of any sort of special status you could claim for it, so the traffic angle is probably your strongest suit.

That and the fact that Heenan is both the local councillor and leader of the BC... :)

Just as a quick diversion - does anybody know what happened to the pillbox when the Ripon Dr. bit was built? Was it demolished or buried?

I wasn't around at the time.

I can't find the one by the Wolseley Arms on Street View, either. It's a lot more overgrown round there these days, so it might still be there - or there could have been a policy of removal..

I saw some newts ...;)
Funny you should mention newts.

When your lot of houses was on the drawing boards, one of the proposals was to drain and infill the pond - for those safety reasons. As you might imagine there was a little local opposition to this idea, and a friend of mine, or so i'm told, convinced 'those that be' that he had caught great crested newts in there so it needed protection. I caught a newt in a net in there once but it was definitely a smooth newt.

The friend in question was not named Ken...

Do new housing estates produce new jobs - other than for those building the houses - most of which will travel a fair distance to work?

Bank Lending - National Figures

43% is currently going to house building
24% is going to other financial institutions
10% is going on real estate
1.4% on manufacturing

Has a familiar ring to it, does it not?

Yup; we moved in 11 years ago and I've heard similar tales. As kids we used to catch them all the time (probably didn't help their cause there really), one called Tiny* survived a week.

*Someone's bound to ask me why I called him that.

And so should you...
The ultimate decision on a development of this size would usually be with the Stafford Borough Council Planning Committee ( or whatever they are called this week ) and it would usually be 'called in' by the local councillor , particularly if they fancy staying as a councillor next election time.

The Planning Officer will make a recommendation and has recommended many applications for development in Stafford over the years, only then to be overruled by theses committee councillors, on many occasions, who in turn are then overruled by the Planning Inspectorate on appeal.

Although in the interim i have come up with a slightly cheesy campaign slogan with regard to the putting of pressure on the councillor -

Lean on
Heenan

I don't expect it to take off.

How could a chief executive of a building society possibly have a conflict of interest as a leader of a Borough Council who decide on how many homes are built ?
