New McDonalds/Drive thru planned for the Hough Retail Park - not happy

proactive

Enjoying a drop of red.
Why did Sport England object? They only tend to object to schemes if it would involve the loss of sports pitches / facility. However, it is my understanding that the application was seeking to increase the number of sports pitches, therefore, I would have expected their support.
But it's not football...

Apparently the objection is due to the 'loss' of a rugby pitch.

But, and it's a big but, this rugby pitch was only a temporary home for the team using it. The Cricket and Hockey club were good enough to provide a pitch for the team as they were kicked off their last pitch by Stafford Borough Council....

I don't understand your post. Sport England have a wider remit than just football. If the proposal was seeking to improve / increase the number of sport pitches (whatever the sport) then I would have expected their support.

Edit - just read the thread re: politics and sport and I now understand your post proactive.

The plans for the McDonalds were accepted last night at the Planning Committee (11 yes / 2 abstentions). Its likely to be 24hr as there are no restrictions for other vendors on that park to not open 24hrs therefore they can't prescribe something else. Other things such as landscaping are still up for discussion.

On the bright side it seems the chap from Environmental Health is pretty switched on for such things and will be keeping a eye on how the development goes.

Landscaping up for discussion?

Minutes from landscaping meeting:
So, what shall we do?
I think, erm, some shrubs and a tree.
Yeah ok, so what sort of shrubs?
Shrubs that are close to the ground perhaps?
Ok, good, will they be good enough to capture all the litter from the great shitdump we past for planning?
Yeah, should do.
...and the tree?
Well, a sapling of some sort, one that will blow over within 12 months we hope, haa
Haa, right ...anyhow, type up those minutes and past me a biscuit, I've got five minutes before I have to be seen to care for all Staffordians that like the word development, at some other look crap; produce crap planning proposal.

Exit stage door left: thinking to themselves, bloody job well done! whilst chomping on a hobnob...

Is there a certain number of pixels allowed before an image taken from the internet and used in a newspapers online website constitutes a copyright infringement?

It is normally considered acceptable to copy up to 10% of a copyright item for review or research purposes.

They need to sort out the Lichfield Road traffic before they start building more places to go, the Road can't cope with so much traffic, they need to widen the road and make it 2 lanes going out of Stafford and they can widen the road enough at the junction to still give a right hand filter lane, and going into Stafford they need to change the road layout so the left lane is for the Wolvohampton Road only and the other lane is for going straight on for the Newport Road and the other junctions at the Ring Road.

Evening all,

We live on the Crossings (behind the Hough Retail Park on Lichfield Road). The other half was walking the little one to school this morning and noticed a planning notice by the Retail Park (i've linked them below)

http://tinyurl.com/pyhftmd
2 x PDFs attached below also

There are 3 applications made by an Agent on behalf of McDonald's. 2 relate to store signage whilst the third is regarding a 12m tall "Totem" sign which they want to erect on the junction of Ranshaw Drive (the road that goes between Argos and KFC) and the small roundabout.

As it currently stands there are no application for the unit itself, a few of us and neighbours think they are getting their foot in the door. On the associated documents on the Planning site it shows a plan of the unit which will sit next to Argos and comprise of 2 storeys. The current road leading to the rear of the retail park would be moved closer to the entrance of Alston.

As a resident I'm not happy at all. The 12m sign to me seems a complete waste given that the roads leading up to the retail park a sheltered either by trees or buildings yet it will be staring right at us on the estate. Other signage in the area in relatively low level (Travelodge, KFC, Pizza Hut) so Ive no idea why this could not be the same.

As for the traffic this is a massive concern. With the building works going on in the town centre, once those developments are completed the town will just grind to a halt and the retail park which has always suffered will just get worse and worse. There's massive congestion now at weekends or when Alstom finish shifts.

What are people's thoughts on this ? The consultation on the planning website finishes on Monday 24th November so feel free to add you thoughts to the comments section on there.

Thanks

Richard

Their invite for a major kickin' in the balls, is in the post no doubt!

They should consider themselves lucky (the developers will no doubt be thinking), as they'll be one of the lucky lot, first in the queue for the (in every meaning of the word) bootin'.

I hope Scooby's stays, doesn't notice a hit in takings and the B&Q lot find it way more convenient to eat a butty from there, than drive down to McD's.

It appears that we live in a town that "needs" three McDonalds, but doesn't need one fully functioning hospital.

Give it a few years and I bet they'll try to build one on the new development on Weston road past the police headquarters....
