A MAJOR new Debenhams department store looks set to open in Stafford.

The retailer is understood to be in advanced talks to take over a three-storey site at the multi-million pound Riverside development.
Stafford Borough Council is refusing to confirm the news but borough council boss Ian Thompson told the Newsletter this week that developer LXB had re-submitted a planning application for a three-storey retail store on the corner of South Walls and Queensway.

So where does that fit in with the proposed-but-probably-never-to-be-built Marks & Spencer development?

It fits in by arrangement

Hence the delay

Having three 'names' together makes the place viable

And being able to park next to the stores was a condition of their arrival

I can't remember the last time I shopped in M&S tbh, do we really need a bigger one?

Yes, because then you would actually have more choice - which would bring more people in. At the moment I usually use it to be a collection point for anything I buy from M&S

This will be quite a result for Stafford if this comes to pass. Would be nice for the Co op building or the bottom end of the Guildhall to be developed by a major store but realise a purpose built new build with parking next to it must have more attraction.

The new store will food led with the parking critical to it being built

Maybe this is M&S? Could be their smoke and concave mirrors department.

Corrected for you.

Disclaimer: I have no evidence whatsoever to suggest that M&S or indeed any other fashion retailer use concave mirrors in their fitting rooms to make you look thinner in their clothes.

Convex would have a more 'flattering' effect, I believe..

I am in there all the time.

Well not "all the time" obviously, I do have a life.

But I love it for basic stuff and because Stafford isn't big enough I tend to go to either Telford or Birmingham.

We all have our favourite shops depending on age and style.
Top Shop and River Island for the young ones.

Marks and sparks, Wallis and Barbara Powell for the middle aged biddies like me.*

and even if one is younger, I find M&S gent's formal shirts excellent - trendy and they actually fit! I would need to be a stick insect to get into a Next / River Island / Burton shirt.

You should try the Ventura Park store in Tamworth.
