New shops / businesses opening in Stafford

I thought there was a thread for new shops etc, sorry to admin but I could not find out.

Thought I'd seperate this as it seems to be on the closed shops thread alot.

New shops coming-

-British Heart Foundation, Electrical/ Furniture Store at 12 and 13 Princess Street (old card and Farmfoods Shops)
-Stafford Photo Shop- Salter Street (Direct Specs)
-Walter Mill- is reopening as something again I hear.
- as is another premises at the top of Mill Street a bit down from GMB, women's clothes shop I hear?
-Furniture Place next to Sun Inn which has closed to alleged severe rent arrears will be taken over by a care team company.
-Esprei on Martin Street has been sold ??
-old Ethel Austin is being decked out as we speak into a very stylish looking furniture and rug store.
-old Pelo is going to open up, do not know as what but it is not Costa Coffee.
-most of the ground floor shops at the new council buildings will open in the new year.

Rumor:
-Revolution at Chicago Rock??
-GAP at building next to Toni and Guy, although work seems to have stopped on that??
-Chambers/ Victoria Chambers??

The clothesland.com shop was full of shoppers when I walked past yesterday at 9.15am. with a sigh saying clothes for £1

Noticed the T-mobile shop next to Co-op was closed yesterday with a sign in the window saying it's moved to a certain number on Gaolgate/Greengate street (can't remember which ). I know with T-mobile and Orange becoming EE they had the two EE shops close to each other.Have the staff moved into the Orange shop or is there another shop opened up somewhere down there. Got sidetracked by Yum Yum's on my hunt around for it and then forgot to go.

one of my close friends works for EE (née t-mobile), has done for many a year - they have moved the whole operation (including all staff) to the EE (née orange) shop on the corner by ernest jones/holland & barrett/etc. so the sign you saw must have said greengate :)

The Orange shop is on Gaolgate St

Thanks for that :) Was only thinking the other week that they may merge both shops together soon with them being so close. Glad all the staff have been moved over as well. I've been with T-mobile for years and years now , ever since they opened up in the Guildhall ,so some of the longer serving staff are used to me going in. Always been very helpful !

Oops I recently met the owners of Trendeez at a party, they are very nice people! Not easy starting a business in these difficult times, unpleasant comments can't be helpfully, when people are trying their best, if they have given poor service I can understand why someone would give negative views, but to put them down when all they are doing is trying to make a living isn't a very nice thing to do!

As I've often said shops open when there is a market for them. If Trendeez think that despite the 'cheapy in the Guildhall' there is a market then I wish them luck, not my cup of tea at all but looking at the people shopping on a Saturday afternoon I think they may have a point.

What sort of shop should be opened, that we'd all spend enough at to support? It can't be anything like the ones closing, as otherwise they'd still be here?

to be fair, just because they're lovely people and you happened to meet them doesn't make jade's opinion any less valid.. i walked past "trendies" for the first time the other day, and i have to say i agree with her..

don't get me wrong, best of luck to them - i'm sure the younger generation will find some stuff the like there - but it all looks like cheap tat to me..

I think the people with any real spending power either do it online or go to the queens retail park or to Cheshire oaks or somewhere like Trafford centre! Town is becoming a place to have a coffee/ drink and something to eat!

yeah, andreas just pointed that out to me.. seems daft to me, so i shall continue to refer to the whole street as greengate in common parlance - RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, YO :teef:

Marks & Spencer address is in Gaolgate street.

I was once told that Greengate Street goes from Grapes to Market Square and the it's Gaolgate Street up to Gaol Square.

I hear what you say, but it doesn't do much to encourage people to start up a business and support the town, when people are saying negative things just because what they sell isn't to their taste ! What ever they sell negative comments are not helpful, if we all did that then we would have no cause for complaint when all the shops are boarded up and empty!

I always thought that from the grapes to mill bank was Bridge St, then Greengate Street thereon to Market Square then Gaolgate Street to Gaol Square.

Then you thought correctly.

Greengate Street goes from Market Square towards what was the Gate that led to the Green, Gaolgate Street goes from Market Square towards the Gate that was used as the Gaol.

Simple really - perhaps we should rebuild the Gates to avoid confusion?
