Yes, that was the place. What a fantastic response to my query. Thanks.

My Commercial Correspondent says that he can't be sure, but he believes that Times Furnishing was where the Edinburgh Woollen Mill is now.

..does that seem plausible..?

My wife and I both think that Times Furnishing was where the Butlers Bell is now.

We only remember about Times as it was where we bought our first double bed... ;)

Seems a more plausible location for a furniture store - I will admit that I have no recollection of it at all..
I think that the Butlers Bell is the one. It was a big store and the windows on the first floor of the pub look more familiar. Thanks again.

Where are you these days? When were you last back here?
Left Stafford in 1982 and my girlfriend [now wife] left NSP in 1983. Manchester from 1984-2007 and now in Somerset. Was last in Stafford in 1992 or 1993 for a Reunion at the greatest pub in Stafford - The Eagle. We were regulars there from 1980-82 in the great Joe and Audrey Feenan days. We both really enjoyed Stafford in those years and have only happy memories - apart from the terrible winter of 1981. I used to spend a lot of time @ Good Deals Records, run by Phil, buying loads of vinyl. NSP Friday nights @ Beaconside were always interesting with some great gigs and conflict with the 'townies'.
Cheers.

Phil lives in California these days, but the whole family is coming over any day now. His son is here now, I'm picking the daughter up tomorrow and the two old folks will be here in a few days. PM me and I'll see if he remembers you...

The Eagle is a sad sight these days....

Our Alan B'Stard is from Somerset.

It was a fine boozer for sure.

At least it now serves a purpose other than waiting for the 'accidental' fire prior to demolition.

True.

I always felt that one of the most often overlooked features of the Eagle was just how much good it did one's psyche to be treated with utter disdain by a dog.

I spent countless hours trying to persuade that Labrador to look me in the eye. It would jump up beside me as soon as I sat down but never got beyond leaning terms.

LIBRIUM Games

A few posts under my belt
Hi, just thought I would say hello and inform the great people of Stafford about an event I am running in conjunction with Titanic Brewery and Katherine House Hospice.
The Event: The LIBRIUM Games World Championships
The Venue: The Sun Real Ale Festival in Stafford
When: Bank Holiday Monday 26th August 2013
Why: A perfect combination... Beer and a decent pub game that anyone can play (if registered!)... and to raise money for the Katherine House Hospice.
For more info visit the official site HERE or check out the promo video HERE!

This is the perfect opportunity to get Stafford on the map for something that could eventually be quite epic, one day, maybe!
Any help in promoting it by re-tweets, mentions etc would be appreciated.

I can vouch for it being an awesome game - not sure what I'm doing in the 26th though.

I ♥ cryptic crosswords
There once was a Greek 'taverna' on the Newport Road just before the Grot

It was owned by 'doctor' Watwood - once of Tipping Street

I believe........
