The firkin was the the forrester and firkin and the sheridan but not sure if it had any other names in between. Sheridan was of course known as one of stafford's famous playwrights, however, he was born in Dublin and did represent stafford as an MP. but I'm sure if he was alive today, he would want to be an honourary staffordian, like meself.
it was also the wig and pen for a time.

the sun aka o'neills aka the sun (again!)

faces aka newt and cucember aka litten tree.

the noahs ark aka the surgery

whats the hops called now, im sure thats changed its name.

Tis The Island now. Been there a few times since it's changed names, but there never seems to be anyone there!

i think the downstairs bit was called club zeus or something like that...im sure it was something to do with the colosseum connection.

Good find! Skill point awarded.

Sales of Talcum Powder must have been huge in the eighties.

Cuffy is the new skill
as mentioned on another thread, joxers used to be called the chains. my dad remembers going in there (must be 30 odd years ago) when the gallery used to be the court and he said all the crims and lawyers used to drink together in there.

I stumbled across this pic and thought it was Wayne Manor for a minute. It is in fact the old Coton Hill Alysum on the site of the Stafford District Hospital on the Weston Road. Coton Hill Asylum was built in the 1850s and opened in 1854. It was originally built as an extension to the County Asylum in order to house private patients. It was to be known as The institution for the Insane of Staffordshire and the Adjacent Counties. The hospital was built in a Tudor style and features included its own chapel, cinema and dance hall, sports facilities, gardens, orchards for growing fruit and vegetables and farm. The building remained until 1976 when, apart from the chapel and the lodges, it was demolished and the new District General Hospital was built on the site.

age'd parent, going by your personal details, do you remember this place?

It was only on researching the old archives that I found the building once existed.

Was sad that it got taken away and wondered what had become of her. Glad she got restored :D

you can't possibly remember, surely?? if she really was taken away in 84, that's less than a year after you were born.. you would have barely been crawling, let alone climbing on things! and i doubt you'd remember much from that age either :strange:

It's one of my earliest memories :P
My mum used to take me there and it's something that's stuck on my mind, as my much-loved granddad was a train enthusiast
