@peggy now where shall I begin....ambience it's been refurbished to a very high standard, however due to low ceilings it's rather noisy in there which isn't offensive but it wasn't what I was expecting, it may not have helped that there were some lively small children in there, once they left it did seem a little quieter, but you couldn't help hear others conversation more than your own. I think it hasn't quite decided if it's a family style restaurant or a more quieter affair, with the decor I thought it may be the latter so that may be what threw me a bit. Service was excellent staff were very attentive if anything a little more than I've been use to, every time I put some food in my mouth it seemed I was asked if everything was okay. I went for the most obvious choice the fish and chips ( I usually do this then work my way up the menu, saves money in the long run if the basic menu isn't right I'm not paying full whack to be disappointed) however there was a regular flow of lobster going passed me which looked delicious. The fish n chips were very fresh with homemade tartare sauce and mushy peas, nicely presented with half a grilled lemon on the side and peas and tartare were in little pots rather than piled on the plate. The desserts looked amazing I did have a lemon creme brûlée very tasty but there were slithers of lemon peel in there I think they should have been more finely grated, but nevertheless it was nice. I would definitely go back to try some of the other dishes but I would probably choose to go after 7.30 to see if it's a little quieter, some ppl may not mind the noise but on a Friday evening due to my job working with children all day I'm looking for something a bit more relaxing and quiet.

Almost made it there tonight but ended up watching the rugby in the Swan instead. Web site said open till 10.30 but when hubby went to Book a table he was told they took last good orders at 9-9.15. Ah well, another time.

Mmm, soft shelled crabs and sea bass...or mussels and sea food linguini...or smoked salmon and half a lobster. Oh heck I'm going to have to work my way through the lot!

To quote the missus, in a rare bout of swearing punnery from her: "I'm not paying £25 for a f_cking steak, they can sling their hook!"
I was laughing so much I walked straight in to one of County Fruit Store's hanging baskets.

That made me chuckle

This restraunt has now closed. We had a table booked for Friday and they rang to say they would close for a week and open back up as a Chip shop.

It makes perfect sense

Stafford is a fast food town

Or a two for a tenner town

Not enough exceptions to have much else survive it

I doubt that, however much they had spent on the refurb they would give up after 5 weeks.

Besides, it was open the other day. I will do some Mill Street surveillance when I'm at work tomorrow and report back.

No it isn't. How would that explain the survival of the Lewis Partnership, Malthouse Vaults, Pastiche and countless decent pubs in the surrounding area?

IF this is true then all it demonstrates is that throwing money at a place is no substitute for massive amounts of market research and a sound business plan. For a business like that to go down so quickly and in the run up to Christmas which is a licence to print money if you get your marketing right, no thought whatsoever must have been given to short-term cash flow and debt repayment.

I hope it's not true.

Pastiche?

Surely that proves the point....

Surely not, I wanted to go back there. In fact when I called the saturday before last after a table I was told they'd been fully booked since Wednesday!
