It says 'First Count Complete' - wasn't there a recount?

Shouldn't the full count results, including spoilt ballots, be published somewhere?

Why am i asking you and not looking for them myself if i'm so interested?

Was there a recount? Or was there a second round to apportion the supplementary votes? Or both?

Yes, I would imagine so.

Because I'm here..and you may not actually care as much as you would wish to think you do?

I don't suppose there was in the circumstances. Yes, that will be it. Probably the former if it was sufficiently 'tight'.

You'd think so, wouldn't you? Darned if i can find them though.

How very dare you cast aspersions on my level of care [insert interrobang here] I care enough to have cast my vote, and am merely trying to find out the fortunes of my candidate of choice.

I wonder how many of them voted tek-monkey?

How many spunking cock?

How many cocks spunked into the box and unspoiled themselves?

It's the minutiae that we miss with such a broad brush.

This seems to be the best summary at the moment.

Just over 11,000 rejected ballots.

Totals from the first preferences by voters in Staffordshire saw Mr Ellis land 63,123; Mr Adamson receive 54,753; Harold Gregory (UKIP) 27,550 Natalie Daveney (Independent) 22,155; and Paul Woodhead (Green) 6,527. Mr Ellis landed 117 more second preference votes than Mr Adamson's 11,760 total to retain the PCC role.

Just over 11,000 ballot papers had to be rejected by officials.

11,000??

Have I said I'm not voting again, ever, yet?

Where's the Brisket and Brexit threads?

Is the post of a PCC political ?

PCCs are required to swear an oath of impartiality when they are elected to office. This echoes the commitment police officers make to serve every member of the public impartially. Before the introduction of PCCs, the government promised the way investigations were carried out would not become political.

So what's all this about then ?

Are the 1741 & 1720 votes just the second preference votes that are added on to see who is the 'final' winner, if nobody gets more than 50% of the first preference votes?

I believe so but did anyone understand the process?
Expensive process closing children's centres etc just to vote for a pcc, still he'll now spend the next 4 years telling us how much he's saving. But no bobbys on our streets.

In the above example, for the Supplementary Vote system, within Stafford Borough only (so it doesn't really matter, anyway) -

Ellis got 8310 or 39%, Adamson got 5385 or 25.3% - out of a total valid vote of 21,267 valid votes - so, there being no candidate over 50%, the second preference votes are added to the first and second placed candidates after the first round.

If it had been just a Stafford Borough vote, then Ellis would have had a final tally of 10,030 and Adamson a final tally of 7,126. At that second stage, a simple majority is enough to win.

Well, I think that's how it works.

You can, by using the votes for the whole county, substitute the total votes in, as above.

It would be possible for a candidate lying in second place after the first count to win, if nobody else has more than 50% at that stage and he had sufficient second place votes to pass the 'winner' of the first round, especially in a close contest.

Imagine trying to explain STV to people here....

The strange obsession with voting on a Thursday has a lot to answer for.

don't mention the blinds
Yes but;
Just over 11,000 ballot papers had to be rejected by officials.

??
e

This is undoubtedly due to different voting system being used. The 1st and 2nd preferential is pretty alien to many. Was Mr Ellis really overheard saying " TFFT" ( thank feck for thickos)......

I know for a FACT that at least one of those was deliberately spoiled.

I'd be unsurprised if many more of them were also so.

If it pleases our lords and masters to think we are too thick to understand the process, we can continue to think that they are too thick to understand that a turnout of 20% does not a mandate make.

To think that you got less than half of the votes, that just a fifth of the electorate deigned to dole out, and to still deem it a triumph? Who's the thicko?
