The sunrise photo was taken at 7.52 this morning so its not too early. Summer sunrise times are a different thing all together.

Love your photos BBW (hardy ha, anyone googling that ending up here would be disappointed) - i'm booking on to a course for May and hopefully i'll be able to get some shots even 1/4 as good as all of yours.

Thanks.

It's all about practice. I've had a DSLR for under three years and my first efforts were laughable. The more photos you take the better you become.

Treeline by bigbluewolf, on Flickr

I've had this photo in my mind for about 8 months but hadn't found a suitable location until a couple of weeks ago. It's not exactly what I wanted but close. The tree line isn't quite as remote and clear as I'd like but one day I'll find the perfect spot.

I haven't explored enough to find any proper subject matter here in Stafford yet. Any suggestions? I've sort of dropped the ball the past year. :< Having trouble getting about doesn't help things, too.

The balancing ponds and a walk up to the railway line is a nice area for photos, ducks, trees, reeds, water,
if you walk towards the rangers ground ,before you get there, on the right is a post with a map on.

Edit: If you want a really long, but easy, walk when you get onto the former railway lines, turn left and walk all the way to Doxey marshes.

Ah, It just came up Stafford, sorry. Astonfields road? I shall map eet. (So I can see where to go from my place to get to there.) Didn't know there was an actual nature reserve! Is it just ponds or do they have other animals and stuff?

Actually, speaking of animals, I noticed Stafford seems to have quite a few wild bunnies! My other half and I just wandered down a road to see what was there, seems to be a private doctors, but theres a little overgrown field along the driveway to it, and I saw a bunny! Never seen a wild bunny before but it was gone in an instant. :(

EDIT: This place? http://www.staffordbc.gov.uk/astonfields-balancing-lakes

I'm excited now. I wanna go! Still waiting for that other key though.

Down to the bottom of Freemen Street, turn right, past the petrol station to the traffic lights, turn left , about a hundred yards, it's on your right...

Your own sat-nav...

Yes. That's it - some ponds, trees, ducks, squirrels, etc. Worth going after a thunderstorm to see the dams overflowing..

It's okay, I found it, google tells me 0.3 miles, minute walk away. Thank you though!

Maybe I /SHOULD/ get a sat-nav. I have maps/gps on my phone but it's utter crap. D: Mind you my phone is giving up on life as-is...

Big Blue Wolf - I assume you don't use your camera on auto mode... so how did you learn the different functions, what they do and when each one is appropriate?

Trial and error gk!

If you want me to show you round your camera over a pint I'd be more than happy to one night :)

Yes there was some trial and error and also a lot of reading camera magazines.

I tend to shoot in aperture priority mode choosing which aperture I want to use, letting the camera take care of the shutter speed, but if that isn't giving me the results I want I'll switch to full manual mode. I mainly leave the ISO setting on 200 to lessen noise but do change if needed.

Oh and one last thing - read the manual!!! An often overlooked thing to do but there are lots of useful pieces of information in it.
