Boy Van Amstel created pleaserobme.com to make a point.

A website called PleaseRobMe claims to reveal the location of empty homes based on what people post online.
The Dutch developers told BBC News the site was designed to prove a point about the dangers of sharing precise location information on the internet.
The site scrutinises players of online game Foursquare, which is based on a person's location in the real world.
PleaseRobMe extracts information from players who have chosen to post their whereabouts automatically onto Twitter.
The PleaseRobMe site is just a dressed up twitter search, but it's a very innovative idea and pretty it cool :D

Thank you, MyCult, for showing how to make a thread about a clearly interesting and important topic, rather than:

Hardly worth a thread of its own

Where was this originally then? If I'd have seen or read this on here already I wouldn't have perosted Guv...

Has it finally happened and the internet has made me blind? :fap:

I'm afraid so! Gramaisc posted his (albeit half-heartedly and with little to no effort ;)) yesterday at 11:48, so it will have been almost at the top when you posted yours!

Still, I'm glad you did, what with all your fancy graphics, quotes, links, etc.

I originally posted in the picture-hosting thread, with the idea of highlighting other possibilities of unintended consequences from putting personal info on the net, in relation to the picture-pinching episode related by djstaffs. I didn't think it was worth a thread on its own and would die quickly - I half-heartedly confess that I was mistaken.
