Poker

Does anyone know if/where you could play Poker in Stafford? I saw a poster in the window of The Surgery last week as i walked past saying that Monday night was poker night . Just wondered if anyone had ever been? Is it any good? Or is a trip to Stoke needed to play it properly.
Thanks

Taitou and I went down a month or so ago, signed up and haven't been back since.
Not quite sure why - anyone fancy a Forum outing? :)

Also Riley's does a poker night too.

I like Wookie's idea of a forum outing!

Hello there...

I attend the one at the surgery every week (well, except these last 2)..

It is a nice evening! £3 to play, and there is free food :P

Not a bad place to learn at all... And we're keen on getting more people to come along...

A guy I work with goes every week and the prizes he was telling me about were great.

It works on a points system. The first and second person won 12 bottles of Stella last week and I think then that they are entered into something else to get tickets for other poker events with free flight and such like. Sorry, if it sounds a bit sketchy but we were waiting for a bus together and his came first (no surprise there!) ;)

You get 1500 chips in the first half and after food you get another 1500 chips, so if you're out in the first half you can still play after food.

I may pop down in a couple of weeks pending shifts.

Thanks for all the replies. We went to our local - The Lynton last night and they play it there too. Its an organised tournament that lasts for 10 weeks and the winner goes through to a bigger tournament in Birmingham we think. The pubs mentioned last night were the Surgery, The Oxleathers and the Lynton. It finished last night but it starts again next Monday. My OH ended up playing last night as they were 1 down and he came 3rd!

Hi, I'm new to Stafford - does poker still happen on Mondays at Surgery?

Are there any other poker nights about?

Thanks

The surgery closed down and is now open as the pie and ale house. I can't help your search for poker more than that I'm afraid.

Hi Rocky! Welcome to Stafford Forum, and more importantly welcome to Stafford. :)

As others have said, The Surgery has long since shut down. However, it is now The Pie & Ale House, who are very active members of these here Forum and I'm sure would love to hear your comments, requests or suggestions. :)

I believe that it used to go on at Riley's snooker club on North Walls - but that was some time ago - might be worth asking there anyway.

Their website implies that it still might...

The pub (Google Map) here has a poster on the outside wall advertising a poker night, unfortunately I didn't note down the time or day they do it... or even the pub name despite walking past every time I go into/come out of town.

It's the Princess Royal. I'd definitely go to Riley's instead!

Poker night round ours very soon!
I will teach you Stud Poker - far better than this Hold-em game the young-uns play these days!
