There's a big kick up about stafford's mail delays in tonights express and star. Haven't read it but seen it on the board outside shops.
I bought an item on ebay 9 days ago, the seller sent it 1st class recorded next morning and i JUST got it today.
Shocking service!

wow thats quite some delay!

The post is being disrupted a lot at the moment, i dare not comment further for fear of being called a twat, but if you want to know where to start looking have a look at the trade unions...

Oh, go on, it's never stopped you before!

I realised the other day that I have stuck no more than two stamps on this year. If the Post Office was run by sane people they might have seen this coming. Trying to improve letter post is like trying to improve a typewriter factory fifteen years ago. The end is in sight.

I used to write on a weekly basis to a place in central Ireland. God knows what it actually costs now, but the stamp required is the same as the one required to send a letter to Vladivostok. I gave up when the time taken reached eleven days.

Indeed. Parcel mail will presumably grow as online shopping becomes normal, but I'm sure that letter post will wane. All I get are bills, statements and junk - very little truly necessary paperwork. There are some things which I have to have for tax purposes, etc., but the day will come when online evidence will suffice for that.

Managing a declining business is a very tricky job.

most of my post is junk and i'm in no rush for owt else so if it takes a week or two to reach me, then so be it. However if you not sure of the reasons for the delays then read the Daily Mail and then you'll feel smug and justified for laying blame somewhere........TWAT!....

I feel a little chastened by this.

I'm probably sending you most of that junk. Other postal services are causing issues too; you may be able to use UK Mail, TNT (but don't, the strife we have) but the Royal Mail still have to deliver it...

When we got the blue bins I rang the Council to check if we could now put window envelopes in. When the chap confirmed this to be true I asked if it was OK to fit a letter-flap into the lid. He didn't seem to find it funny.

Your holiday doesn't seem to be getting any closer!

TNT Post are spectacularly useless from my experience.

Indeed. We send all of our stuff out with them now (approx. 30 million pieces of direct mail a year) and nothing ever gets there when it's supposed to; but it's cheap, and that's all that matters.

About 2 weeks ago we had 3 different friends call us to say thank you for the card and photos we had sent even though it arrived a little late. The cards were sent for Christmas 2007!

I found it funny!!

I think you're right that eventually we will be moving closer to a paperless world although for the time being the post is still necessary IMO.

For what its worth we use Interlink and can't praise them highly enough.
