When we got the blue bins I rang the Council to check if we could now put window envelopes in. When the chap confirmed this to be true I asked if it was OK to fit a letter-flap into the lid. He didn't seem to find it funny.

Your holiday doesn't seem to be getting any closer!

I was always smiling when I was a postie. Saying that, I was having one hour paid breaks at a couple of ladies houses ;) lol

More strikes imminent?

Out of interest, do strikes my RM send more customers to TNT/Interwhatsit? Not that it really matters as its the same posties that deliver most mail anyway, so the end delivery suffers regardless, but just wondered if it angered businesses?

Although in fairness, the piss-poor rates the likes of TNT actually pay RM to deliver letters is causing many of the problems. They collect mail, but get RM to deliver it. RM lose money on this mail in general, but make when they collect and deliver. At least thats what I was told, but it was from a postie.

I think that's exactly it; by switching to TNT we've 'saved' around £1,000,000 a year, so how much are they paying RM.

From what I was told (and I may remember this wrong), they pay something like 7p per item delivered. Delivery is the bit that costs, not picking the stuff up. Or rather, TNT etc. only pick up from large firms so do it in one hit, rather than trawling postboxes. So they take maybe 75% of the costs for that pickup, spending back out 25% on the actual delivery. Meanwhile RM pick up all the small lots to deliver which cost a lot more.

So effectively whoever forced RM to accept the piss poor rates they have to charge the other companies, is the one who's fooked over RM.

Quick check and its 13p a letter, not 7p. However they still take all the lucrative large business clients, leaving the small businesses and private post to RM. The problem is they can pick and choose their clients, RM is forced to serve those not being served by a competitor - i.e. all the low/no profit ones.

was wondering that given t'internet is there less mail, ie the letter-box stuff or maybe more due to all the junk-mail?........ I'd guess that the parcel side of the delivery biz is the one that's seen the biggest increase due to on-line sales. More importantly, why am i filling my ever decreasing brain cells with these questions?.......
