SD card is just a particular format of memory card. Probably the commonest...
Tnx. I think I've seen them in the argos catalogue etc. I think I bought one for my youngest nephews mobile phone so he can get music or games or something. He's got an ipod as opposed to iphone.

Beware of the three sizes...

the only tablet i've used to any extent is the ipad, which i would recommend to anyone and think is well worth the money, so i'm probably not much use in this thread - but i just thought i'd pitch in to say that my mum (who is well into her 60s) used a friend's amazon kindle fire a couple of weeks ago and absolutely loved it, and is looking to buy one now..

she had never used an ipad/any kind of tablet before, and just picked it up and figured out the kindle straight away.. she was using skype and all sorts.. so if my ol' dear can just pick one up and use it, they must be pretty user-friendly, i reckons!

Lol - now you've added more into the mix lol. I'll never decide! Really good to know about ease of use as mums used to the iPhone & ipad. Can she do everything on the kindle fire that she could don the versus touch tab?

I will. I must get round to it and I have enough costa points for a coffee & a sarnie so I'll have a day out at cpw! I don't need any persuading lol. I'm always popping in there as I love all the new phones / tablets but haven't needed to but any tech stuff since April lol. So glad we have mums 70th coming up as gives me an excuse lol. Expensive year this year as I'll be on here soon asking about laptops for nephews university place in Sept, a family members 50th bday as well and I also need a decorator before mums 70! Think I'll be working well beyond 70 lol!

I swear by the iPad and can't seem to warm to any others, have a look on the apple website for the reconditioned ones they are good as new ( I wouldn't have known if I hadn't been told) and a fair bit cheaper

I feel exactly the same, but about Android! I have to use ipads at work and they just don't feel right to me, I usually get one of the others to do it for me.

But I've never had an iProduct, my first smart phone was android as has every one since. It's just like PC versus Mac, it's entirely a personal preference rather than based on ability.

Thnx G. That's a bargain. I've bought something on saturday though at carphonewarehouse - a versus touchpad 7. Very cheap but seems to be ok.

I had been hankering after an ipad for ages but couldn't bring myself to buy one firstly because of the price and secondly because of my stubborn reluctance to choose Apple. Look what happened in the garden of Eden. Anyway, I bought a Galaxy, partly because Apple were suing Samsung over copyright infringement, so I reasoned it must be similar and also Samsung were doing a cashback promotion at the time. Don't ever be suckered by one of those. I went through endless hoops to apply online for my cashback and never received anything.

The Galaxy tab is fine, but I am constantly hitting limitations where I know that the reason I can't see a particular video/view all the interactive elements of a newspaper is because I am on an Android device. From what I have gathered, when I have complained vociferously, it is easy for clever people to make things that work on ipads because it is one operating system/platform/something but there are lots of different kinds of Android, so it isn't practical or economical for them to provide me with functionality.

My husband got an ipad mini. I thought it would be too small for him - he has got very frustrated with fiddly phone keyboards in the past. In fact, I was relatively confident that it would be coming my way. No such luck. It is miles better than my tablet, the screen is amazing, it's fast and clever and I wish it was mine. I can't admit I was wrong now. It would set a dangerous precedent. But if I was making the choice today, I'd go for the ipad.

May I ask which galaxy tablet you have? I've played with an ipad mini and its not that special, the nexus 7 beats it hands down on the screen. Also any particular websites that don't work? I'm wondering if thats just a stock browser issue and downloading a new browser could sort it out for you.

Might be repeating a bit of what Tek said, anyway...

I have a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and was also on a cashback promotion. I just got my cashback this morning but it was a hassle I admit. At every turn the cashback company missed their own deadlines and I had to ring up to chase it, but I got there in the end so it was worth it for the bargain tab I got.

I have to disagree heavily with this. IMHO (and I may be proven wrong) the openness of Android compared to Apple mean it is compatible with more formats, not less. As Tek says, sounds like it may be a browser or add-on issue but to be honest i'd be surprised about that even. On a cheap Chinese tablet maybe, but the Samsungs are very good. Can you give me an example of any site you have visited or video you have tried to play that wouldn't work so I can test to try and help?

From what I have gathered, when I have complained vociferously, it is easy for clever people to make things that work on ipads because it is one operating system/platform/something but there are lots of different kinds of Android, so it isn't practical or economical for them to provide me with functionality.

Kind of correct and kind of not. If someone is used to Apple (i.e. have an iPhone) then using another Apple device is easy. However the same could apply to Android although I will admit that if you aren't inquisitive then finding some things on the Android tablets can be a bit difficult.

However the fact there are lots of different Android devices is neither here or there, it is the software versions and customisations that make changes between versions. But if "clever people" can make Apple devices work, then they can also make Android devices work IMHO.

I honestly believe if you knew what you were doing on your Galaxy Tab then you would enjoy it a lot more. The screen on the Samsung actually has 170 ppi compared to the mini's 163. Have you tried increasing the brightness on your Tab's screen?

Let us know how it performs once you are used to it please :)
I decided that maybe I'd jumped the gun when I read some feedback etc so I took it back without opening it and trying it! I will start looking into it a bit more again over the next few weeks. Thnx a lot.
