I work in da warehouse and think that they should get rid of all these employees that pick and choose there hours and especially PART TIMERS!!!!! Drives me mad coming in for a few hours whilst i am working my ass of for a whole 8 hours flat. Grrrrrrrrrrr. Give us hard workers a chance to keep our jobs. The other 2 warehouses have just got rid of there nightshifts completely...... Why not ours? Problem solved...... Would definitely get rid of some dead wood
Part timers - don't understand your problem. They are paid per hour, why is there an issue?

Night shifts - If they ditch the graveyard shift then nothing is loaded after 10pm, despite the vans not leaving til 6am or so. Seems stupid to me, you may have other orders you can cram into those vans to save sending them half full. You could even offer a 'order up til midnight for next day delivery' style option, which the night shift would fill. Much better to trim down all 3 shifts surely? As long as the running costs of the building aren't too high.

I work for DHL as well and i'm one of 6% affected by this. Not sure how many part time people there are. I only know of a couple and they work in the offices and i think one works 4hrs and the other 6hrs and they work these because of their kids. So if these are the part timers your on about Ptake1979 then i can see the one who does 4hrs being made redundant because that job i've heard is done by warehouse at the other sites but here its done by someone in the office so there's a saving right there!

Hopefully i'm safe :)

I understand that Screwfix, at junction 14, are currently in the market for warehouse people..
Anybody that might be interested in the above vacancies at Screwfix should probably write direct to the HR Manager - I can't find anything on-line about it, but my source is usually reliable in these matters..

Oh THANK YOU VERY FKN MUCH!!! I am the one that works 4hrs!!! the reason why I only work 4hrs is not just because of childcare but because my eldest is disabled!!! there are many roles that are done differently at the other sites be it by managers, warehouse staff, or admin - what difference does it make who does the job as long as its done properly!!! BTW - my partner is also one of the 6% who is affected. N Tek-monkey - I understand everything and I am not paid by the hour and Ptake1979 - u wanna bring that up at your consultation then why not also bring up why are warehouse staff doing office jobs - swings both ways!!!
No need to shout and swear everyone's in the same boat people will leave across the board that's life. It's not all about you there's about 150 people affected including me.

Concerning your part time hours that's just an oberservation about you going who says its going to happen that's just one of the things I'd do if I was making the decision. Also been speaking to a few office staff and you went part time before you knew one of your kids had a disability so don't use that as an excuse that's low. Don't worry I'd get rid of more dead wood than just you but I'm ruthless and at the end of the it's not up to me.

Does this discussion really need to continue on a public forum?

Is this not now at the level where pm's should be considered?

Luckily, I have never been through a redundancy process and hope I never will but arguing in a public forum about who should or should not keep their jobs is probably not the best way to deal with it.

Surely you should be arguing with "the man" and not amongst yourselves?

Just my tuppence worth.

Speculation really gets you no where, and I think you should be extremely careful about saying who should and shouldn't go. Did they not tell you to avoid social media about the redundancies? My company has just announced redundancies, and I am likely to be at risk myself or have to make a member of my staff redundant, but we were told to avoid social media and whilst speculation is rife in the office, everyone's in it together. Pointing fingers will get you nowhere, and it's pretty disgusting to go on a website and say you deserve s job more than someone else because they work part time.

From the companies point of view it is better to ditch one full timer than 2 part timers. For a start it halves the headcount, meaning the cuts sound a lot less. It also leaves 2 people to do one job, meaning you are less prone to lost man hours through sickness (more chance of them covering each other).

Just my opinion obviously, but it seems the logical way forward. I agree with keeping the personal stuff offline though, you never know who is watching :strange:

I'd say all this chatting is making the selection process for redundancies so much easier, as it wouldn't take much to identify the people on here by what you are saying if anyone from the company were to read this! Top tip keep your heads down, say nothing and put your energy into proving your worth not creating idle gossip!

Indeed. Wise words for anyone considering posting anything on any social platform! :)

none of your business
I know that whoever does end up losing out to the redundancies my heart will go out to them cos it will be at least 3 that I will have worked with at some time n u can guarantee it will affect some of the good lads in the warehouse who deserve to stay there cos the ones who should go never seem to be affected. It all depends on what the criteria comes down to and then again, that may not be totally fair as it will go on a certain length of time for example the last 6mths - not on how long u have been there n going on previous criterias - u could have bin with the company for years with no problems, no sickness etc, then in the last year had loads of problems, had to have a lot of time off work, through sickness or whatever n u end up being one of them being made redundant because of it yet someone who has been there less time than you, has always taken the pee, rarely comes in on time so has bad time keeping but managed to keep sickness to a minimum gets bypassed as the criteria didn't affect them. Always the good ones!!
