the original is over 30 years old and still very funny. Leonard Rossitter was superb in the title role and just as comical in the re-runs of Rising Damp on ITV3....

I'm not sure if all those wonderful catchphrases will work again, "late again, frozen points at stockridge" "great" "super" and CJ's classic "i didn't get where i am today by...." priceless.....

Oh heck, I thought this remake was just a nasty rumour... Still, we must give it a chance. Why oh why ((c) Points of View) did they have to delete the DVD boxset of the original series?
Any word on characters? Casting? Anyone see Clunes on Friday Night with Wossy the other night, did he give anything away?

They are showing clips of it in adverts on the bbc, as they do for up and coming "new" shows.

I didn't get where I am today by watching unnecessary remakes when the original is still there in all its glory. Why don't they just repeat it?

Well, I watched it and I did my best to like it, but it didn't seem to be any improvement to me. Nobbs has plenty of other books that they could have done instead. Will people be buying DVDs of this in 30 years? I really would be happier with a repeat of the original, but maybe it's early days yet - we'll see.

If you were to be forced to remake a classic TV series what would you attempt? I haven't come up with an answer so far.

I do remember that one and at the time i thought the guy in the donkey jacket was doing a very poor imitation of Ronnie Barker doing one of his working class character's. Last night's version was a bit late for me is it soon to be repeated?....

Cheers for that, i've just watched it and made a few observations:-

1, I did laugh at some of it
2, Jasmine reminds me of a young Diana Rigg
3, The fantasy bit in Jasmine's office, we've all done that.
4, I do like Reggie's house.
5,
6,
7,

I,m gonna continue with it and see how it develops.....

There were indeed a few amusing bits - 'I'm just killing a beetle', for instance. I will pursue it also. I just feel that it might have been better to do something else like Pratt of the Argus or Second from Last in the Sack Race, perhaps.

I didn't get where I am by needing reminding of a young Diana Rigg.

(How long before they remake that with Johnathon Ross and Davina McCall?)

Hum; not brilliant, but I'm prepared to give it a couple of episodes to see how it develops. They should have cast a taller actor to play the CJ character.
I still wish I could get the original series on DVD, though; the manufacturers seem to have deleted it :(
