Hum; not brilliant, but I'm prepared to give it a couple of episodes to see how it develops. They should have cast a taller actor to play the CJ character.
I still wish I could get the original series on DVD, though; the manufacturers seem to have deleted it :(
HMV currently have three copies of the three-series box in @ £25.99. I have the omnibus book, should you wish to borrow it. The portrayal of the Scottish chef on paper is remarkable!

I watched this last night on BBC iPlayer. Have to admit I thought it was pretty good, in terms of jokes and scenario it was fairly amusing and well produced. I can't help feeling that if they had taken the content and rejigged it into another sitcom it may work better, as trying to remake an old classic leaves you constantly drawing a comparison between the original and the remake.

As per Wookie's comment, I will also be watching the next few episodes to see how it develops.

We will have to see how it goes. Do we know if they're just doing the first series, or are they doing the three? The first episode of anything is always a bit difficult and it wasn't too well received at the beginning the first time around, as I remember. I suppose a good few people can watch this one without having seen the original - it was thirty years ago and it doesn't seem to have been on too often since.

I have to say I don't remember it that well from its first airing on tv, just from the repeats!

Are we, perhaps, trying to avoid yet another rapidly approaching birthday?

No, it has approached and passed!
Damn! Too many with the same name. I wondered why she was so confused last night. I'll catch up ASAP.

In the 3rd series i recall a shy vet character, i remember at the time guffawing at the sheer ridiculousness of that........

Well, I watched episode 2 over my breakfast this morning and I feel that it still needs to get some steam up. There's the odd good line, though. I do wonder if the laughter track is meant to sound quite so synthetic, or is it just me?

I've watched episode three now and it's getting a bit better. I thought the school kids were quite good, in fact.

Nice to see Perry Benson in last night's ep too. I don't think I've seen him in anything since Operation Good Guys, hard to believe that's nearly a decade ago. He's aged terribly, though :(

I did rather enjoy the bit where he does that presentation in his wife's class. Obviously, I don't agree 100% but I reckon it provides a good overview of things:

So, there are three basic economic systems: capitalism, communism and, probably your favourite, stealing. ... There are those who see capitalism and stealing as the same thing. And most people now consider that communism to be old hat because, whilst it rewards us all equally, which is good; it rewards us equally badly, which is bad. Stealing is illegal - innocent people suffer. And our prisons are now more crowded than the hilariously so-called 7:53 from Chichester to Waterloo. So, there you have it: we are basically slightly reluctant capitalists. A bit like being at your parents' party, there's lots to eat and drink but it all feels a bit sh!t. All roads lead to the shopping mall, and sometimes even you would rather visit a museum, or a church, or a flower-strewn meadow. ... In capitalist terms, I work at the coalface. Not literally, that'd be too dark and dusty - as a manager. You see, in this country we don't actually make anything anymore, but we know a man who does. And it's my job to e-mail that man so that he then sends me something that I can put in a shiny packet and sell. Now, let me talk you through why you might, or possibly might not, one day want to work for a giant corporation selling disposable razors.
