He is 29 not 20 and the Police stopped a cab he was in. If he had co-operated with the Police then he wouldn't have been shot. But obviously he had a firearm or some other weapon.

The Police don't shoot unless they feel there is a serious danger to the public from an individual.

Local people have painted a picture of him being a model citizen with his family and 4 children. But that doesn't mean anything if he also carries a gun?
Exactly. This isnt the US, armed police here are trained to use their guns only as an absolute last resort. The vast majority of police armed responses do not end up with the police using their guns. The bloke that died was a criminal carrying a gun, he shot at the police, what are they supposed to do, ask him nicely to stop & would he mind if they put some handcuffs on him?

I feel sorry for the police in all this, they really are damned if they do, damned if they dont. If they had deployed 100 riot police straight away to what was initially supposed to be a peaceful vigil from family & friends they would be criticised for a heavy-handed approach, aggravating the situation. As it is they are being criticised for not doing enough. They got criticised for using their batons on protestors in the student riots, sometimes vilified in the press, what are they supposed to do? The people rioting last night were criminals, not protestors, & they should have all had a baton round the head if you ask me. But of course you cant do that can you, its not fair on the poor criminals. Justice in this country is a joke- it needs to be much tougher & people should stop criticising the police & start respecting them for the very difficult job they do.

The Olympic Flame is lit, look how prettily it burns

Here is the Team GB medal tally to date

Politicians fiddling ( criminally ) their expenses

All powerful media hacking ( criminally ) phones and computers

Police officers taking bribes ( criminally ) for information and overlooking criminality

And whilst the Old Etonians ( leaders my arse) dine on quail eggs in their luxury holiday overseas villas,London burns to the stench of anger, frustration and hopelessness

Why is anyone surprised

If you have no hope there is none

PS if wet in village hall

I must admit it was difficult to feel sympathy for the people on the street having heard one of them explain: "The community is angry. They have broken into electrical shops and JJB Sports." Quite. I know when I am angry, what really hits the spot is a new pair of trainers and an ipad. I do try very hard to keep my politics as far away from my mothers' as possible but...when sympathetic figures rushed to explain that the reason why all these young people were carrying large piles of electrical goods was because of a failure in police communication...no, numpty, that's not a protest, that's a riot.

Some were protesting, others used the police distraction for financial gain, they all get branded the same though.

Why do you need to protest before the results of official enquiry?

I think the policing is far too 'sympathetic', use tear gas and rubber bullets on them or are they too scared of being called 'rascist'?

If you wait for an official enquiry you'll be waiting a long time, people are ****** off and angry. Still no excuse for being thieving chav scum though, I'd happily have the looters shot TBH.

basil

Now we have the sickening scénario of 'copycat' riots and Stafford is not immune, there is news that à door was slammed in Hillcroft Park late last night......

'People are angry and pissed off' that a known drug dealer and criminal known to be involved with gun crime has been shot dead?

They should be dancing in the street!
