What about the Riverway boys?
Riverway was a girls school and Kingston was a boys school, but we moved away and I don't know what happened after, I think they both closed when Weston Road High was built, but I could very well be wrong.

I went to Riverway when the two schools merged. Then the one school wasn't big enough so we had to walk to Kingston for some lessons.

Good planning on that one!

Who were the head and deputy head back then? It must have closed at the end of the 80's or start of the 90's which is when I was there.

I left in 1979 Mr Clear was the head. Riverway boys are equally as welcome as Kingston girls.

All I remember is that he was head at Kingston before he came to Riverway. Don't remember any 'stories'. The only person who's stories anyone listned to was the Janitor and I can't remember his name, only that he smoked cigars.

Yeah, Mr Clear was the Head when I was there and Mr Sallis was the deputy. I'm not sure but I think I had Mr Sallis for maths. I remember him being full of stories and he always used to end the lesson with the phrase "Tempus fugit" which means Time flies, or something like that.

I remember walking with a whole train of kids down the riverbank to Riverside for swimming lessons. Not sure the 'Elf 'n' Safety would allow it today!

Yes, he was maths, I'm sure he was ex-army and had stories about his time in Africa including if I remember correctly, using red army ants to stitch a wound, never knew if that was true or just a joke. I was trying to remember the other day what car it was he drove, I remember it was something quite cool back then I'm sure. Did you have Mrs Fairbanks for music?

Yeah we used to walk down to Riverside, but in those days they still made kids do PE in their pants.

LOL, yeah true!

Definitely ex-army. Don't recall the red ant story.

Mrs Fairbanks, yes. She know my dad so I had to be careful! She played the organ at my cousin's wedding at Salt Church too.

Other teachers I can remember are Mrs Hut for English, Me Renshaw for PE, Mr Luft for French and Mrs Milman for RE (again she new my dad). Can't think of any others off the top of my head.

Seems an age ago now!

Wow, I remember Renshaw, Luft and Millman, Renshaw went up to Riverway and I remember he turned up with a black eye or broken arm one day and of course everyone said a pupil had done it or his wife had beaten him up.

I remember the quad (if that's what it was called, it seemed huge back then but today it'd probably feel tiny.
