Rugby Club progress...

A nice piece of wordsmithery, but I think you are confusing football hooligans with rugby supporters mate. I accept you dont want them on Doxey but please don't tar them with that brush.
The worst "supporters" that I've ever had to endure, and by a very long way, were Australian rugby fans - I've suffered a bit of "football support" on occasions, but not for many years, and the Australians surpassed all of it put together.

Rules of chessboxing

A chessboxing match is fought in eleven alternate rounds of chess and boxing.

  • The match begins with a chess game, lasting three minutes. Each chessboxer has a total of nine minutes for the total chess game, making it eighteen minutes of chess in full.
  • The chess game is interrupted by five bouts of three-minute boxing rounds
  • Fighters may win by knockout in the ring, by checkmate in chess, by the judge’s decision, or if the opponent exceeds the nine minutes allotted to the chess game.

OK, you rest your case on a single report. Compared to how many for soccer hooligans I wonder?

I think you'll find the report compared rugby and football, and I would certainly rely much more on the comments of the Police, rather than the tabloid press, as well as my own experiences of coming into contact with both.

Certainly I agree with the reliance on Police over press. I guess we'lll just have to agree to differ on our belief then.

It's hardly a report - more a few cobbled snapshot opinions trying to look like a story. For the record, I love all three codes, (football, rugby league and rugby union, and have been to many a game, and I can honestly say that it is only rugby where you can actually sit next to a fan of the opposing side. There's a reason for the opposing fans being segregated at most professional football matches and it's also telling that they don't allow alcohol in the stands at professional football grounds either.

There are always going to be idiots at any sporting event, but it's naive to think that there is just as much / more violence at rugby compared to football and using one 'report' to back that claim up.

One could argue that significantly more people attend professional footie games in this country than rugby ones............infact almost 7 times more people attended footie games over a season than attended Rugby games, so one woule expect 7 times more violence/crimes. I would suspect that the reality is that football is far less crime ridden statistically than it's made out to be..........

2015/2016
Premier League (Football) Total attendance 13,851,829 Average 36,452
Aviva Premiership (Rugby) Total attendance 1,802,769 Average 13,354

I did try to find statistics on rugby but it seems there isn't one. I can't wonder why.....

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
Organised Russian and French thugs targeting English. No doubt that some English are retaliating. Nothing is as clear cut as it seems.

I dread to think what it will be like in Russia for the 2018 World Cup.
