I don't understand - they can afford to build a massive new council HQ that has been a royal feck-up thus leaving so many beautiful historic buildings empty.

But they can't afford to keep a library and gallery open?

Something that sets us apart from all the other Poundland high streets?

Shameful.

Tories feather each other's nests, it's as simple as that.

I have nothing against councillors per se. Actually, I think it's great that they have somewhere warm to go at a time when so many elderly folk are struggling with rising energy bills.

I'm also all in favour of them having lots of meetings and voting on dog poo and conservatories. It keeps their minds active and gives them a sense of purpose.

But even the thought that they would consider selling the town centre to the highest bidder makes me think that Russell Brand might be right after all.

Councillors are very easy people to criticise. If any forum members want to join the council especially the borough, it doesn't seem difficult. All the parties struggle to get people to stand at election time. That is why there isn't a full ballot paper at any borough election. The problem is, when you do get elected, you soon find out that it is the council officers who make the REAL decisions anyhow. Personally, I would rather eat my own feet than stand for the council as the idea of getting slagged off by all and sundry doesn't have much appeal. I suppose we are lucky a few suckers put themselves forward for such posts.

The so called democratic process has been sussed out to be one big fix for an elite and the people know this, even the stupid ones

Totalitarianism is already here

Good lord, he's a member of the West Midlands Regional Arts Council.

Councillors are easy to criticise because the wrong people go into Politics- people after a late life ego boost, a bit of extra money on the side and mini Hitlers. It frustrates me when 'The Council' is criticised as one homogeneous mass, because that is a group of thousands of people, all trying to do different things with the budget they have, and often working for completely different organisations. The County Councillors, however, are people who make the budget, make the policy and then when it goes right, pretend their staff had nothing to do with it and when it goes wrong, blame the other party, local people or their staff. Our County Councillors are Conservatives implementing Conservative ideology and using austerity as an excuse.
And having had personal dealings with several of them, they deserve all the flak they get.

Councillors do tend to be older as they are the only ones who have the time to spend. Alas, if you ever see a councillor under the age of thirty, then they do tend to be an oddball or a freak of nature.

Aha, the reason they're closing all the youth centres is because they 'didn't have things like that in my day, we walked to the mine barefoot in snow, the kids of today don't need any funding because all they do is take drugs and intimidate Councillors with their hoodies and their denim.'

I'll admit that I've never been in a Youth Club in my whole life.
It ranges from how far the car park is away from HQ. I think it begins around £28 per month up to about £40 per month.

If that's the case, the most any employee is paying is £2 per day, with others paying pence over £1 per day. Given the number of people involved, it might be illuminating to compare the income gained by charging the parking charges levied on other council tax payers with, for example, the cost of leaving the Shire Hall well alone.
