Staffordshire archive centres to close as part of cuts

Two archive centres are to be closed under approved council spending cuts.

Bosses at Staffordshire County Council have rubber stamped a move that will see the William Salt Library in Stafford and Lichfield Record Office close, with all archives being housed at Stafford Record Office under plans for a £4 million extension.
Closing the Lichfield site will save £70,000 a year and it is estimated closing the William Salt Library will save a further £75,000 a year.
In a separate move, the council’s cabinet agreed a partnership with public service provider Amey to repair the county’s roads, with some workers expected to be transferred.

Righto, so they are spending £4million so that we can save £145,000 per year.... by my sums that makes it 27.5 years before this move makes any sense whatsoever. And that (stupidly) assumes that the £4million doesn't increase (unlikely) and that the £145,000 savings are made (again unlikely)

I would guess most of the savings come from staffing reductions but you will still need staff so add that to the £4million too.

Well the built Scaffoldshire Place on the basis that after year 25 they would be saving 6.5p per annum, so I hardly think our prudent and rational council are going to pay much attention to your completely fanciful findings.

SSC will be putting less tham half a million, the 4 million will be from the lottery fund. However SSC have to even apply for it and it seems a lot of money for the venture.
Lord knows what will happen if the bid is unsuccessful.

Obviously they should just burn the books to heat Scaffold Place, bulldoze all those rickety old buildings and give some money to an overseas developer to build a few hundred houses.

So they want to use Lottery money, from the Heritage fund, to destroy our Heritage?
Have SCC found a buyer for the old registrar office yet?
Is the Library Building still empty? (The proper Library building that is at the Green) that would be a great place to put Our Library.
Oh, and let's put the Market, back in the Towns Market Hall.
