I have, but both have been fleeting daytime visits - 'bonzer beer garden entices pisshead cyclist' kind of thing.

Addlestones remains - they had another poncy fruit-based cider on, i can't remember the name of it, not that that would be of any importance to one such as yourself. The second of my rescheduled stops involved the cider so i can attest to its applyness.

It seemed to me to be furrowing the same kind of groove as before - if that was unconvincing then, i guess it would remain so now - like i say, not the most representative of visits on my behalf.

Not much of an answer really, but better than none at all?

Anyone been lately? My other half was tempted last night but I wasn't convinced after my last visit.

Wormella & I have been in there quite a bit since we moved in round the corner. I'm quite at peace with the refurb myself, I don't think it's especially hurt the atmosphere. The beer is still good. There's a cloudy cider available for apple juice drinkers such as yourself.(Addlestones I think, but I may be wrong). We tested the food last week - a run of the mill pub selection, but done well and with generous portions.

Last time I was in there were several kids running around eating food they'd taken in themselves, while a woman hoovered around us while we tried to drink. Am I to assume it's improved a bit then? The front bar was closed that day so no escape, we just finished up quickly and left.

Also what's the deal with a tv? Not in both bars I hope? We used to make a special effort to visit but as we live in North end it's a bit of a trek unless it's worth it, especially with the greyhound so much closer.

Hadn't noticed a TV - but I've always used the back bar when I'm there, even in the old days, so I assume it's in the front. I've not had any experiences of being pestered by kids or hoovered around, but I've not really been in during the day (unless you count Sunday afternoon).

On the cider front they have a cloudy one called 'Rosie's pig' I think, or did when I was there for the quiz on Wednesday. Jolly nice it is too.

I have genuinely enjoyed reading peoples views and opinions on The Spittal Brook. Yes the pub has changed, unfortunately it had to change to survive, but the atmosphere and it what made it special (its regular customers) remain. The pub is still a work in progress, I dont think will ever be finished! I would be happy to discuss ideas and suggestions with anyone, after all it remains very much a community pub. I can however confirm, that while we may have a new tv (AND YES PETE DID HAVE ONE!), we have not succumbed to SKY! Nor will we ever have a pool table or JUKE BOX!

I read in the paper it was a 90k make over, it must have gone on the new bar in the lounge and the tiny bit of flooring in front of it and the toilets which are very nice. As for the lounge it looked like someone was moving out not moving in when we called in! The decor in lounge and furniture is cold, dated and lacks character. Disappointing I preferred it before.

Hi Thanks for the comments

You are right, the lounge furniture does need updating, it will be done over time along with the carpets etc

Unfortunately a lot of the budget had to spend making the building safe and secure after years of neglect, we have doen what we can and will continue to improve it

Yes they do - and it's still rock hard.
I used love goin for the quiz, might pop down 1 evening, if I haven't got an early shift next day. Our ward clerk used go, I might drag her along, see if we can win the booby prize.

I may try and get a group of girls* for the quiz next week. What is the maximum number in a team?

*middle aged women actually.

My question "what is the maximum number in a team" must be actually harder than a quiz question because nobody....not even the landlord has the answer.
