Did you know that the mighty 'Ford has its very own Patron Saint? I haven't found much information as yet, but for those who are interested:

(also known as Beccelin, Bertelin, Berthelm, Bertram, Bethlin, Bethelm)

A disciple of St. Guthlac. He lived in Croyland, England, and is listed as the patron of the town of Stafford. Remains of his shrine are at Ilam, Staffordshire. Legend claims he was a noble who married an Irish princess who went into labour and gave birth in the forest while he went for help. Wolves ate her and the child in his absence. Bettelin and companions lived under the auspices of Croyland Monastery, founded by King Ethelbald of Mercia.
We just missed the official feast day of St. Bettelin - 9th September, so we'll have to put the official street party on hold until next year ;)

man, he was well representin' the ford then wasnt he. i dont like him anymore.
that's just where his remains are.. plus all this shiz happened ages ago, when the town/county lines were probably different.. he did his best, bless him!

saying that, he was obviously a useless git, letting his missus get mauled to death by wolves lol

lol!!!! indeedy. I used to have my dancing lessons at holmcroft community centre and you can see the church from there. its one of these modern type affairs like berkswich by school.

ive even been to a church service there! (proof that god doesnt actually exist as i didnt frazzle up in a bolt of lightening upon crossing the threshold- or crumble into a pile of dust in a comedy buffy the vampire slayer type manner ;) )

my folks used to know one the of the vicary/priest type bods there. his name was roger. i think he and his missus came to dinner at our house at some point.

see, i know some shit.
