Always thought that stafford balti was owned by the same people that owned Al Sheik's. Remember when Al Sheiks opened up in Shelton Stoke clean but very basic furnishings then they opened one up in Newcastle which was pretty plush and then the opened one up in stone and all served fabulous food and massive nan breads

No - but Spice Island was owned by them for a while, though - not for some years now.

I received a terrifying message last night.

Abdul says -

Remember remember the 5th of November as the saying goes ...
Now that the fireworks have descended I want to say .. Thank you
It has been a privilege to have been running my own business for 22 years
However there comes a change to everyone's lives and it is with a heavy heart I say this Christmas will be my last as I'm in the process of moving on.
However it is with a happy heart I wish to bid farewell when I do as it will involve such emotion when it finally happens.
I've had nothing but good memories during the 22 years I've had at 34 Mill Bank I feel blessed by the grace of god to have been in such good health to accomplish all these years since the 16th May 1995.
I am still here until Christmas.
STAFFORD Balti will continue under new management after that and that pleases me. The next person will trade under the same name and hopefully sustain the good name the establishment strived for over the years.
From the bottom of my heart

Don't worry

I felt the same when The Brunswick Cafe shut 22 years ago ( same location)

Still miss the apple pie and custard

Forgot to mention, visited here for the first time on Saturday, the food was good, just about the right level of service. A quibble with an item that was never really resolved, and I also felt the tables were a little small for 4 people, other than that, probably would return.

It does have concentrated cosiness available at the weekends - I'm a mid-week person, when it's under my control.

Popped in just now, to see Abdul on his final night at the helm.

Met the new boy, with the easily memorable name of Islam - I think we can have confidence that the future is safe.

I shall attend shortly as a non-mystery customer.

Yes, looks like it's going to be a Nepalese restaurant - possibly time for this thread to be locked and a new one opened so there's no confusion for Ayo Gorkhali (cc @Admin)
