sorry to butt in... I was considering arranging something similar for a birthday next year, but have been stopped in my tracks by the dance group I'm using asking for "council permission".
Stafford BC are only responsible for market square and guildhall, anything else is Staffs CC.
Can I ask who is your contact to speak to for permission?

Hi WhiteBakeCase, this was planned entirely by our student - I only got involved when she asked for some help recruiting people. However she also asked me to help her access power in the Market Square. I threw myself on the mercy of the Reception at Stafford Borough Council and they pointed me in the direction of a lovely lady who manages events there - things like the Farmers' Markets etc. I can't find the bit of paper I was scribbling on at that point, to give you her name, but if you called Reception at the Council and asked for the office in charge of events in the Market Square I am sure you would reach the same very helpful person.

Your student was there, camera in hand.

A mob, by any interpretation of the word, was not.

Oh dear. I'd rather it be that way round, though, tbh. It would have been awful if people had turned up ready to dance and the student had made other plans! I hope she wasn't too disappointed and that she got some footage she can use - she seems to have worked very hard on this project.

Karen Rogers? wasnt much help, I was informed by that lady I'd need a 'licence' for the event, at a cost of nearly £200, although when I suggested it might happen regardless of licencing situation, the reply was "well, then we'd have no idea who to prosecute sooooo..."

Think I might just take a punt

I was there at the specified time but there was none of those shenanigans looking even remotely likely so i'm afraid i left.

Not the best rehearsed I've ever seen... but this one has just made me laugh for the sheer balls of all including the vicar!
