HS2, phase 1, which includes services to/from Stafford, received Royal Assent in February 2017 and the preliminary work is well underway, with the main works due to start next year. It remains to be seen if the later phases (northwards to Manchester and Leeds) go ahead on schedule (or at all).

Journey time from Stafford to London is expected to be 53 minutes.

Interestingly Hampton Court is 53 minutes away from Euston (by public transport), the same journey time as Stafford is planned to be via HS2.

So, average property prices in Hampton Court are:
    • Flat - £442,966
    • Terraced - £661,175
    • Semi-Detached - £817,723
    • Detached - £1,587,101
    • Palace - £10,000,000,000

Correct me if I'm wrong but phase 1 only goes to Birmingham. Phase 2a goes from the West Midlands to Crewe and 2b onwards to Manchester as well as the West Midlands to Leeds etc...

Has phase 2 has Royal Assent ?

On the fastest trains it's only a few minutes more than that now, so I'm not sure the impact will be Hampton Court-esque. If it is I'll happily make a massive profit on my house and move somewhere to count my many pounds in a place not afflicted by the Hamptoncourters and thir Chelsea Tractors. I'll gleefully leave them with our short sighted council and sh*t retail parks!!

HS3 will be built after the war

HS2 was cancelled because of the extreme cost of steel after war broke out

I've spent ages looking at maps of Hs2 phase 2 and nowhere can I find anything to indicate that Stafford is getting a stop on HS2. The maps I've found all show the line going up through the Trent Valley from Lichfield up to Crewe. The closest the line comes to Stafford is at Hopton, but no mention of any stops or anything. This all occurs at Crewe.

I'm confused! Can anyone deny/confirm the actual route and if Stafford will be affected directly please?

HS2 will not have a station stop in Stafford as far as I'm aware. However, the Handsacre link to the HS2 line means we will have classic compatible trains (whatever they are) which use the new line and will be faster. They will stop at Stafford station. HS2 isn't really about speed anyway, it's about capacity of the existing line. What I've not seen yet is what the impact will be on the frequency of our existing service to London.

Will be interesting to see who is awarded the West Coast franchise, as they will be the ones running the HS2 trains I believe.

    Basically

Add the time to Birmingham to the HS2 time to London from Birmingham and then include the travel time between New Street and New Canal Street and your journey is approx twice the time it is now from Stafford to London

Progress can go backwards as weĺl as forwards

    Yeh

    Got this ace idea

    Yeh?

    So

We shut down the famous Shire Hall yeh?

And we build a corrugated cardboard roofed grand railway station surrounded by ugly cheap red bricks and fountains that never work from day one yeh?

    Fantastic isn't it?

I know I'm supposed to be happy about this but I'm not. You may laugh but I like Stafford and want to stay here. I even quite like the sh*t retail parks.

Rising house prices are only a good thing if you have more houses than children.

HS2 phase 1 will run to Birmingham. It will also run beyond Birmingham to join the current West Coast main line near Lichfield. This will allow high speed trains to run to Stafford, and on to Liverpool.

If high speed trains stop at insignificant places like Stafford they are no longer high speed trains . Because they've stopped

If it's only the money (or lack of it) that's keeping you in Stafford.. somewhere that you clearly hate and are obviously too good for....

Well there's probably a few people on here that would happily have a whip round to help you on your way.
