STAFFORD HOSPITAL IN ADMINISTRATION

MrsKH

A few posts under my belt
I've visited my Nan in Walsall Manor Hospital today, no different from any other hospital and experiencing exactly the same problems, a bay of elderly women, no nursing staff around because they were each looking after 15-20 patients, an elderly woman asking for the toilet but no one to take her. When I did find my Nan's nurse and asked her how she had been over the last 4 days, what the plan was etc she couldn't give me any information as she didn't know and to be honest how can you be expected to know everything about so many patients.

Unfortunately as a nurse myself it's sad to say none of this surprised me, i've worked on medical and surgical wards and maternity wards in Stafford, Wolverhampton and Cambridge and none of them were any different. A massive lack of staffing thanks to government cuts in frontline staff, overworked and exhausted nurses who have probably been working 10 days in a row without lunch breaks or toilet breaks.

Please don't tarnish us all with the same brush, in every profession there will always be a few bad apples, but on the whole were good people who want to care for your families and frequently at the detriment of our own families, social lives and often our own health.

My main point here is also that Stafford is no different to any other hospital, sad but true and we all need to get behind our local hospital, when it's gone there will certainly be a higher death rate in the local area from having to travel long distances to acute services. Many women having their 2nd, 3rd or 4th babies won't have sufficient time to travel to Stoke or Wolverhampton, this is a very frightening situation and whilst I support everything Julie Bailey did to highlight the problems at the hospital and yes it needed to happen, I do believe that she has lost sight of why she started her campaign in the first place and find it quite hypocritical of her to be shown in images shaking Mr Cameron's hand, if only she understood the real truth, this whole situation was started by the government in the first place!

Okay rant over!

That would be the Labour government then, not Conservative, as I think you will find they were in power from 1997 to 2010. This fact seems to conveniently have been forgotten by many...

The Conservatives 'policy' on the NHS still stinks, obviously, but you can't blame them for everything!

Yes, this all comes at a time when staff are being cut with a reliance on bank staff who maybe working somewhere completely different the next day/ previous day and so no or little coordination or patient knowledge exists

Just as well no politician has said I will cut the deficit not the NHS

Otherwise we might not trust him

The problem We now face is that with Ernst and Young in charge they will run the Hospital as a business.

Any facilities that can be outsourced at a saving will be.
That will close the A&E and any other services permanently.
They will be totally unaccountable.

This will be a test to see if it works and if the mortality rate seems worth it ,thus a new healthcare policy will be born formed ,at arms length and with minimal risk to Dave , Gideon and Nick.
If it doesn't work and they kill an unacceptable amount of people then it will be Ernst and Young who will be at fault not our masters.

See you all at the march I just hope that its not too late.

I know I am repeating myself but, peaceful marching and signing pieces of paper will not alter a thing because it does not embarrass the Prime Minister on a National level

I don't think it is any coincidence that news is given about the hospital going into administration a week before any public protests, like I said it's important to fight and try and save the hospital, but I believe the decision has already been made! I hope I'm wrong!

So fat folk are to blame.
What about the elderly living longer or the cancer patients getting cured or the kids with leukaemia getting cured.
It not about fat folk it's about underfunding and miss management and a system that's failing.

Pass me a pie!

We knew this would happen weeks ago- The government could help if they wanted (but of course, not)

Can't see the hospital stopping the losses (and if they did, surely that means less staff and again more problems in care etc)

Doomed.

Old managers have ruined it, a lot of hospitals are in the same way, but of course we're in the spotlight.

Got to feel sorry for the staff that have actually really worked hard to improve it (and most likely still understaffed!)

I think the NHS will keep getting worse on the whole, Just to many people are ill now, or need hospital for something, growing elderly population, and obese population something has to change, unfortuantley they can't run on nothing

I remember an episode of scrubs where doctor cox had a rant about their job essentially being to prolong a life that should have naturally finished, and the more you prolong it the more problems they have and the more you have to do to keep them going while their quality of life deteriorates til they eventually die regardless.

In a way the NHS is partly responsible for the pension problems we are having.

Unless a patient has DNAR stamped on their notes, you have to try and keep them alive, untill told otherwise.

Oh I know, not slating the profession in any way! Just pointing out that if people refuse to die when told they will end up being a drain on resources, hence pension expectations now being way out.

perhaps this is all a plan to reduce the number of staffordians, by killing us all off in ambulances on our way to Stoke or wolverhampton, if we do get to hospital they can finish us off by leaving us waiting for hours in corridors, cause Im damn sure these other hospitals wont cope with the entire sick stafford and cannock population descending on them. (said in a grumpy tone)

Yeah, but when they start to fail they can be closed too. That will open up the doors for Tesco to run the local hospital instead, as was planned all along. NHS patients only get Tesco value anesthetic, bupa get the good stuff. Currently double points on all long term illnesses.

I don't want the hospital to close :(
my hubby has chrones and sometimes needs emergancy care. since A&E shut hes gone wolverhampton hospital once and stoke once. its a huge ball ache to visit him and when hes in agony and needs morphine, its a very long drive to those hospitals!
both of those hospitals tho, I'm ashamed to say, had much better and effective care. In stafford hes kept in days longer than needed, ussually because they forgot to get his meds from pharmacy before it shuts or some other stupid reason like 'its the weekend'. (You'd think they'd be rushing him out the ward to get the bed ready for the que of people)
sorry but I've spent far too much time in various hospitals over the years, and although the MAJORITY of nurses at stafford are lovely and caring, (I've had a few goes at the terrible ones that can't seem to rush meds when hubs in agony) the other hospitals hes been in, including one in london, have been much better overall. although not perfect.
however, altho he was misdiagnosed twice and nearly died in that hospital, I also received the best care I could have done when having my baby who is 18 months old now. maybe theyre just rubbish at chrones??
I don't want the hospital to close as its such a long drive (life or death) to go wolverhampton or S.O.T and there are loads of people need the services. I'm afraid its too late tho! whos marching on saturday?

hey, IBD-buddy! i spend half my life at stafford hospital, thanks to my ulcerative colitis, so i am well acquainted with their gastro department as well.. i have regular outpatient appointments, as per your fella - at the moment it's fine, as i can just nip out of work for an hour while i get poked & prodded, but if my care gets moved elsewhere i'm gonna have to start booking time off work and go all the way to stoke/wherev's just to do the same :(

edit: also - where's your avatar gone? i like looking at cake! :chef:
