Stafford Lancers

So its 11.33 sunday morning i'm sat in my house on parkside windows shut,tv on and what can i hear?............... dum dum dum der der der dum dum crash!

Nearly every f~ckin weekend they are out there, its hardly fair on residents and why the hell do they practice on a field that is surrounded by so many houses. For three years now i've lived up parkside, hoping each year that they will stop! Now to make things worse they are now there making their racket on Thursday nights aswell. The headmaster of the school isn't interested and has informed me that is nothing to do with him as the school site is owned privately by someone else.
Surely somewhere like the county showground would be a better place for them to practice.

For the people who read this who don't live up the north end of the town, imagine nearly every weekend a group of people were outside your house intermittently banging drums and playing brass instruments all weekend....... if this were to happen they would carted off by the police for noise pollution so why does it change things that they are on a school field?......... its still noise pollution!

sorry if there is a thread on this already,i did look but couldn't find one.I've also been told that there have been articles in the newsletter on the subject but unfortunately i've not seen them.

have some skill, good first post me thinks.

either way, you have every right to inform the police who should stop it?! school field makes no difference surely...

Hi ant, welcome to The Forum :D

Yes, people on here have expressed their annoyance at this before (see this post) so you're not alone! They've been doing it for years, though, and I doubt very much if the police would do anything seeing as I suppose it is constructive, organised extra-curricular activity.

If I lived up that way, it would certainly make me feel the same way. Surely if enough people brought the authorities' attention to it (and by "authorities" i mean the school/council/etc.) they could relocate?

Try environmental health at the Borough Council rather than the Police. There are rules on noise and someone to enforce them.

On a slight tangent (usual for the forum I know :) !) we get woken up on a sunday morning at some ungodly hour by the church bells in town - it is just wrong, thought in religious terms sunday was a day of rest not bloody bell ringing!

although not religious myself I stick to the resting bit!

Would you prefer that they where out mugging old people, stabbling each other, or other sensational daily mail headlines?

we moan and bitch about everybody but we dont stop and think about what these young people are gaining from there music lessons and what they would be up to if they did not have this club to go too.

A radical solution to this is perhaps go out instead of sitting in your house in july with your windows shut

i'm all for the club and the good they do for the kids but again why do it so close to so many peoples homes?

Gota quid...... i'm sure that if they were doing this every weekend on your doorstep for years you wouldn't get a little annoyed but not all of us can be as perfect.

*note to self...... after a long week at work, stay out all weekend until the band have gone home............. sorted!

Because there are limited places for people to practice

I have never said anything about being perfect, in fact that is a little insulting,.

And i did not say go out all week end, all i did say was instead of sitting in your house in july with your windows closed why dont you go out.

just to clarify the situation.

The whole idea of the forum like democracy is that people will not always agree with what you write.

I just thought it would he wise to put another point across.

Ant you have your axe to grind and i will always enter a debate.

It is not a personal attack which you seem to have taken is as.

FAIR ENOUGH

Ant you have your axe to grind and i will always enter a debate.

YOUR VERY WELCOME

NOT AT ALL
I'm not expecting everyone to agree but i'm sure the people that don't are not within earshot of that abomination.

They don't even do requests!

christ, gota quid - someone got out of bed the wrong side today lol..

i agree with what you're saying - i'd fully encourage any activity that engages people's creativity, young or old.. however, i can imagine that if it happened on my doorstep, every sunday, relentlessly, for hours on end, i would have something to say about it lol..

All that practice clearly serves them well. The performance they put on in BTTF square, shortly after Sofas 'Stafford Song', in the pouring rain, was quite impressive. Think most of the forumites missed it as they were still filling up on :pie: in Joxers.

i was in a little bit of a mood earlier, but it gets my goat when people just go on about stuff like it would be fine if it was else where. I live not far away from a church and as an athiest i was sick and tired of hearing the sodding bells ringing at daft oclock on a sunday and then at least twice during the week. When i wrote to the newsletter did they print my letter did they fudge.

its amazing how if you change the people involved, the god botherers instead of kids, how much notice is taken.

ggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

but if they moved to a less or preferably, non populated area it "would" be fine! ie less/no one to bothered by their racket.

They have all gone home now so everything is well with the world, well until their return on Thursday night. :(

I've lived near the RAF, married an airforce man, moved to a harrier base, helicopter base, red arrows base, now that was noisey and you want to complain about a brass band. I'm now back in stafford, get the helicopters from the camp and the hospital now. The strange thing is, because I never let it bother me I don't hear it. This band has just won a prestigious award. Read stafford post page 4. As Staffordians we should be encouraging them and be proud of them, not trying to pass them from pillar to post. Do you burst kids balls when they land in your garden too??

TENSHON

4000th post? Whatever, I'm nonchalant..
i caught a glimpse of the lancers following sofa's stafford song performance in market square. considering they're all volunteers and united in a community-based group, it seems a shame to vilify them. i'd sooner have them next door to me than the asbo delinquent who lives opposite us.
