Nice to see the new owners have managed to make the old m+s more appealing.

There was a great stack of plywood out the back on Wednesday. A lad was carrying them into the building.

I wondered what they might be doing with them and considered asking him, but he looked 'under pressure', so I left him to it.

This was not one of the options that I had considered...

Shame it was useful grabbing a drink whilst you were that end of town, but tbh, it was just a copy of home bargains, but they screwed themselves by having a 99p model.

Just on my way to the bookies to have a fiver on Stafford being one of the 100 stores M&S close by 2022. Kerching.

Well 21 have closed already and another 14 have already been earmarked for closure.

That's 35 done already. Some swanky stores gone

Disaster if it does close, but why was the Stafford store so big in the first place? Even worse than that, where will the council's chief executive buy his breakfast snack if the food hall goes? Oh calamity.

If the old Gaolgate store was still open then it would be on the list 100% for sure.... Where they are currently I believe there would only be a slight chance....

My money is on Wolstanton.....

Ye I think Stafford will be fine, for now at least.

M&S made this decision in 2016, which is when the new store opened but decided to bring it forward. Some of the stores are a lot of the smaller ones who in fact are being replaced by bigger purpose built stores.

Unlike Morrisons they are also still committed to opening stores.

I would be surprised if Wolstanton went, but I think Hanley could be at risk. The last couple of times I have been I have been the only one there.

There's going to be strategic elements too - closing Walsall means I suspect there will be a ripple effect to surrounding stores.

True, one closing 'nextdoor' will be in the interests of the currently surviving store, if it does drive custom this way at all..

Wolstanton is a very, very successful store.

Stafford on the other hand...……………………...
