Stafford shops opening - Turning into a boom town?

With bank branches closing there's not really anywhere for businesses dealing in cash to deposit the funds these days.

Maybe they don't want to pay the commission for accepting card payments.
The fee is like 1-3% depending on who you use, it’s way way overblown.

It’s also incredibly easy to do card payments, there’s loads of providers out there with deals on the readers

But that's £100 a year pubs would lose from each of their more regular customers.

Yeah but they don't like change as my daughter found out.no longed want to change it...& That was about 5 years ago!
Maybe it varies between different branches. I find Charnley Road PO and Cannock Road PO very good for other services.
And I'm often behind someone having bags of change weighed for paying in at my nearest one.

When I lost my wallet I had to use cash and it was strange having to ask shops and pubs if they took cash, some didn't!!
A shop in Weston Super Mare this week only took cash. Stood waiting for my change " Oh, do you want the change? " Nice little earner for her not offering change , then making
people feel guilty requesting it!

( She then gave it me in all small change. Gave that to the bus driver last night for sons £2 ,bus fare to town and she looked in disgust/ horror at it. Bus drivers here expect " tap on/ tap off " card/phone payment even though cash is accepted.)

That's equivalent to the unwelcoming "So you don't like technology then ?" I got on seeing my £10 note in the Holly Bush at Salt recently.
Maybe some businesses don't deserve to survive.

This cash only shop actually had a sign in the window saying 'closing down sale'. Only reduced prices though if you dared to ask the scary looking grumpy assistant for your change! I'd thought the customer in front of me was just being dozy standing there after being handed her goods , and then eventuallty walking away without saying anything . Must have been waiting for her change and daren't ask . ( I had to argue "If I'd have given you that amount short, would you have served me the goods?" to get her to hand mine over).
Post Offices.

Bridle road post office used to let me draw money out over the counter with my debit card. This dragon in the post office here told me "No! You have to pay the post office for a yearly service to be able to get money over the counter ". I go elsewhere for my stamps since and avoid that convenience store it's located in.

This is not true and that person is mistaken. There is a payment for other services for business customers but not that. There are 3 types of Post Office, DMB (traditional multi counter post offices), Strategic Partners (WH Smiths etc) and Independents (Charnley Road etc) all of them should offer this service for free and not with a charge. That person made a mistake.

I called in this morning and it's good, freshly cooked food at a reasonable price and the coffee was very nice too.

The staff are really friendly too and they had quite a few customers in whilst I was there.

It is a bit confusing when you go in because it's not clear whether you order at the counter or whether they take your order at the table. It's the former but quite a few people were waiting at their table to order before they realised.

Also it is cash only at the moment and a few people left when they realised.

I also suggested that they put the menu in the window so that people can see what they're serving and the prices.

Will definitely go back next time I'm at that end of town for food or coffee.
Do they do adult portions? :D

Yes, I withdraw £300 with my bank card at a variety of Post Offices every so often and have never had a problem.
The "Independants" get so little renumeration nowadays - "It only pays the electric bill" - that some aren't inclined to offer full hours or a proper service.

Agreed, they are a rule unto their own, but theoretically Mudgie, basic post office counter services, they should offer all of that including cash withdrawal up to your banks daily limit, not their limit, the banks daily limit.

Just had a look on this local post office website.....Cash Withdrawals, deposits, balance checks available for my bank customers , no mention of a charge! Their loss ....I could have spent money in the convenience store each time, but not been in since!

Corbyn turns up, with someone filming, shouting, in the full knowledge that its not the staff that are making the rules. Realistically he should have been putting his complaint to the head office. Regardless of the rights and wrongs, he might be going about this the wrong way. Also it's Corbyn.
