Stafford shops opening - Turning into a boom town?

Had a look on Google Earth street view, dated June last year. Yes it looked pretty rough then, probably beyond saving? Pity. Close to the town. Pub right across the road. Eatery's near by. Car parking. Seems a waste. :ohno:

Just about every single window is smashed, all the way around the building....

All that spiky glass hanging out of the frames close to the pavement seems like a major safety hazard. A few good gusts of wind and...

The car park underneath is actually a free for all now after the barrier got pushed up, for those of you brave enough to park there xD

Yes - and you only need a large event at the showground and finding hotel rooms can be a nightmare.

I walk past the Chetwynd Center every day and think what a fab hotel that would make
Well, seems like someone has the same thinking as you, and have put forward an application for another town centre hotel .

The plans and details are a bit sparse, but I'm taking a guess here the entrance would be through the old New Look, opposite Café Nero, and it'd incorporate some of the old gym , and a bit of the roof.

I'm having a bit of trouble placing Hunters Row, but I get the location you describe. My first thought is … car parking ?

It's this alleyway, where Oxfam is.

It wouldn't be unusual to have a hotel without parking - if there's long stay near by (which I'm guessing Sainsbury's would serve that purpose)

It looks like a budget Ibis - that's a good addition to the town and a great use for that space. It's a great nod to work to regenerate the North end of town too.

They've just opened a new Premier Inn near the centre of Bude down this way, which had no facility for parking. But they have done some kind of deal with the Council to use the car park across the road .. so yeah … that would work.

I've stayed in a lot of budget hotels for work across the country, I don't drive so I care about closeness to a train station, but I know most of my colleagues will travel for work on the train, and I care about closeness to places to eat and drink in a town - that location would hit both of those really well (more so then say the Travelodge on the Hough (that I would do a bit of a screwy up face if I'd been booked into that if I was visiting Stafford for work) - and if it's an established chain then company bookings will opt to it because they'll have a business account and it's a known quantity.

If this comes off it's really a great addition to the town.
