The letter we have had through the post says it will be closed completely from Milford to School lane. Noticed the signs said closed 11th Jan to 15 June today as well as I walked down there .(The coppers were out with the speed trap vans along that stretch this morning, and must have been catching quite a few today. The brakes were being slammed on, but I should think most far too late to avoid a fine.. )

    Letter reads:
'For Brocton Road Roundabout along the A513 to School lane...........'Unfortunately, we will need to close this section of the road to keep our work force and everyone else who uses the road safe. Access will be maintained for residents wherever possible. '

    and..

'The section of work between the Radford bank junction(Cannock Road Round-about) to School lane will be carried out under two/three way lights, to save time this work will be undertaken at the same time as the road closure'

You just wait. The planners from another planet will soon take care of Doxey, if necessary by replacing railway bridges with level crossings operated by an old geezer who only bothers to open the gate twice a day.

WORK on Severn Trent Water’s £15 million water pipes in Stafford will stop over Christmas before a road closes in the new year.

Tixall Road will open this afternoon in a bid to cut congestion and get traffic moving.

They will return on January 5 but will be removed before work starts on Milford Road, which will close between School Lane and Milford Common on January 11.

Gareth Mead from Severn Trent Water said: “We know that this time of year is very important for trade so we want to give shops and businesses a break over the festive period. We also want to make life easier for local residents - the last thing that you want when you’re trying to do that final bit of shopping, or travel to and from family parties, is to be stuck in roadworks.

“With this in mind, we’ve organised it so that the roads we’ve been working on in the area will be opened up for Christmas. Tixall Road will open on Thursday afternoon, which means our customers in Stafford will be able to use the road on Friday for their commute in and out of the town, on what could be the busiest commute or shopping day of the year.”

Severn Trent Water is working to install more than 20 kilometres of water pipes and five kilometres of new sewers, as well as upgrading two sewage pumping stations.

Mr Mead added: “We’ll need to go back to Tixall Road on Monday January 5 and we’ll need to set up traffic lights on the junction on St Thomas’s Lane and Tixall Road. These lights will be removed before we start work on Milford Road (A513) on Sunday January 11, which will see the road being closed.

“We’d like to ask the local community to bear with us until the work is complete. We won’t be there for too long, but the benefits will last for decades.”

So with Alstom moving out of town and their current site destined for more housing/shops/trash restaurants I guess Stafford will become rather more choked in traffic

    Transformers all round!

The problem at Stafford station is that people are too thick to go in the car park using 20 mins free and would rather gridlock the forecourt. The same dullards also get really flappy when you correctly exit to Station Road to turn right out of the station - because they are trying to drive in on the wrong side.

I wonder what sweeteners Alstom have had to move to the "county council developed" business park?

The Redhill business park was approved on it's ability to create new jobs, I hardly think this relocation counts towards the 2500 jobs that were originally talked about ?
They have at least refrained form calling it an employment park. I wonder which council spin doctor came up with that name.

"Stafford Borough Council, the site's planning authority, twice deferred its decision to gather more information, but approved the plans on Wednesday."
"The county council, which is funding the project, has said it could create up to 2,500 skilled jobs."

2500 jobs? Pluck a figure from nowhere, then double it. Zero jobs since it was finished a year ago, apart from security costs.

Bor Council giving LXB a couple of million for Riverside, so the fabulously wealthy CC will probably be good for five times as much. Should then be able to squeeze some more supermarkets onto the old Alstom site.
