It may be an outbound path, but it doesn't state this, and there is no inbound path! Generally cyclists use it and then continue on the footpath towards town, and lets be honest, who can blame them! I don't bother with it at all and use the lines to Sainsbury's, as I suspect most others do.
There is probably no inbound path because there isn't the space for the council to squeeze one in without spending on anything more than paint.

It does amaze me when cyclists ride on the cycle paths over the Queensway Lichfield Road bridge into oncoming traffic because they are really putting their life at risk.

And you can ride townwards down the bridge to the point at which the path is abandoned - and a cyclist can turn right there, into Queensville Avenue, but not a motorist - madness.

Also, a cyclist can legally turn right at the Riverway/Lichfield Road lights when approaching from Pizza Hut - I've never seen anybody try it - loads of cars do it (illegally), though...

I can understand why you cannot turn right into Queensville Avenue as I've seen many holdups over the years due to someone turning right.

As for turning right at the Riverway/Lichfield road junction on a push bike... I've done it many times since the road changes when I was cycling regularly.

Hardcore! :slayer: :D

It would be fun to turn right there on a cycle while everybody shouts at you - only seen it done once.

Why not just go to the new lights, before St Leonard's? Unless you need to get to one of the houses between Riverway and St Leonard's, I suppose.

Stafford council inmates don't actually know what a bicycle is, or does. They seem to believe riders have VTOL ability, hence the sudden disappearance and appearance of useless paths that are dangerous for everyone who isn't in a car, such as the one near Chell Rd magic roundabout and the new £1.5m bridge to nowhere at Baswich.

Because I like to be awkward at times :) From memory, I think I may have been going to the bank and it was the way I decided to go home.

It would be interesting to see what response they got if they applied the same 'logic' in a motoring situation..?

The Bridge to Nowhere was I believe a County spend led by Cllr Winnington who maybe unavailable for comment at the moment but you Cannes try and contact him if you want

The Bridge to Nowhere is supposed to link up with the cycle path on Beaconside.

I know a few are cynical about the so called bridge to nowhere, I'll postpone my opinion til i have test ridden it, but I love the idea of cycling high above that meadow in the summer, and also being able to avoid 'that' stretch of Baswich Lane! :)

Enjoyed that Thanks. See, I'm not the only one who thinks bikes are the future. I'm a visionary .................:D :D

In all seriousness, imagine living somewhere without the constant drone of cars, the feeling of safety for kids playing in the street and cyclists too if car numbers were reduced to 1960's levels and freight was shifted back on to the railways. A better place for everyone.

Of course, more people did get killed on the roads in the '60s than are killed now - and what do you do with your freight when it gets to the end of its railway journey? Rail freight only really reduces some long-haul trucking, all the urban deliveries would still have to happen.

However, it was nice for those few days during the last "fuel crisis".

BTN still not open yesterday. Council said 23 weeks from last June. Possibly they've decided it's too dangerous to open when cyclists travelling to Baswich Lane are going to be dumped in the road by the canal bridge.
