It never used to flood this bad, now it does, and the amount of rain has not increased enough to warrant that. Therefore we know something caused it, we likely just need to destroy a few thousand houses slightly upstream and let the soil soak some back up again....
Yep, there's parts of the golf course underwater that used to be bone dry all winter, and houses are the only thing that have changed...

There seemed to be a big flood by the new police HQ, causing tailbacks in both directions as I drove past on my way to the Showground this morning.

Sandon Road flooding in the 1960s: https://www.search.staffspasttrack....eID=2495&PageIndex=5&SearchType=2&ThemeID=304

I don't know if it's worse now than it used to be, but it has certainly being occurring for over 50 years.
I moved to Sandon Road in 1980. The flooding did happen back then, but was quite a rare event. The first significant one that I saw was due to thunderstorms in 1982, I think. It was fairly quiet after that, for a while, the original culvert was cleared as a result - and the balancing lakes were expanded in 1990. The frequency of the floods has greatly increased in this century. There are a lot of car parks and big tin sheds upstream on Marston Brook now, which may contribute to the inflow.

I seem to remember there being a dispute about who was 'responsible' for the situation. Blame was circulated around the Borough Council, Severn Trent - even the NHS, via the downstream section running through St George's - there may have been others 'involved', I'm not sure now.

Edit - Whoops, not Sandon Brook....

...it would need a good run-up to get over by the Severn Stars..

Spread the blame as far as possible, that way nobody actually has to take responsibility.

Yeah that’s a common attraction up here.

Always wondered if my milk float would go through it without swerving into the other lane, but haven’t been brave enough to give it a go just yet...

I noticed the appearance of 2 lovely pot holes down Corporation st tonight. Right by the chicane nearest to Crooked Bridge rd. And you can't swerve to avoid them either, cos you'll hit the ruddy chicane!

2 massive ones on the a34 too, hit them both today in the fog at 6.30 in the morning..... One just after mini tesco as you are heading into town, the other opposite the old hospital by the flats heading into town, both unavoidable in the dark or with other traffic about.

Lake Sandon is in effect. I feel that people are ignoring the barriers and driving through regardless, this is in turn pushing water on to ATS and the garage. Last look cars were parked across stopping traffic ignoring the barriers and driving through anyway.
