Stafford Traffic.

What an absolute shitshow the traffic was this morning. All around Staffordshire. Roadworks all over the place, not just Stafford. The partial closure of the Redhill roundabout is very unusual. Traffic southbound cannot turn right to go towards the M6 and instead are forced to continue towards Stafford. The other day, they were all making U-turns in the gap in the road opposite Redhill road. Strangely enough, that gap has now been closed and the traffic is making U-turns at the traffic lights further down. The official diversion is go travel to the McDonalds roundabout and then turn right down Eccleshall road. But quite a few others especially heavy goods vehicles were turning right into Holmcroft Road this morning, where children are crossing the road. Alliance Street is also a possibility but that is further away. This is going to go on till Spring 2025!! More queueing and weird manoeuvres by traffic and the road being worn down till next year.
It says on the STAG that a goods vehicle has driven into/damaged the traffic lights opposite Balfour Grove whilst making a U-turn to get to the M6. The traffic lights at that junction are now all out apparently. These new LED traffic lights haven't lasted long. It is a shorter route to the M6 though rather than taking the official diversion route. I can see the council installing No U Turn signs and No Right Turn signs all along the road here and noone will take a blind bit of notice. 😂

I read some comment saying a truck nearly hit a pedestrian waiting at those lights too on the first day of the closure.

The only way to stop people doing the U-turns is to close off the crossing points etc (like they have to the one prior to the Balfour Grove lights) and force everyone (including Belfour Grove residents) to go down to the roundabout.

Starting Monday (4 March) we’ll be carrying out investigations on the A34 ahead of a major upgrade.
This exciting project, funded by the Government's Levelling Up Fund, will bring significant long-term benefits for cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists.
It includes full resurfacing, road repairs, dedicated walking and cycling paths, and upgraded crossings from Weeping Cross to the junction with the A449 roundabout. Street light replacement began in January too
👍

To ensure the safety of workers and motorists during the early works phase, temporary traffic lights and lane closures will be in place from 4th - 22nd March. Traffic signals on Radford Bank near Meadow Ridge will be manually controlled on weekdays between 9.30am and 3pm. The left-hand lane at the top of Radford Bank turning onto the A513/Baswich Lane will also be closed.
While these temporary measures may cause some disruption, the long-term improvements to the A34 in #Stafford and #Cannock will be well worth it.

"This exciting project, funded by the Government's Levelling Up Fund".
"Exciting" means "causing great enthusiasm and eagerness" so that's a lie.
It's "funded by" us taxpayers so that's another lie.
And it's us Council Tax payers that are funding these lies.

So disruption on the A34 AND the A449 at the same time? Gridlock!

Those bastards at Highways really hate Stafford, don't they...

Oh no!

Our heavy reliance on the roadway system, with all those heavy vehicles weighing down on it, has consequences!

How could this have happened?

I blame George Galloway.

But now Stafford station will see at least 4 HS2 trains per hour instead of 1 as part of the fallback plan. Stafford to London journey times will be only 54 minutes saving 21 minutes on current times it's a win-win for Stafford surely?

But now we'll still have congestion and slow trains northbound.
