Should Eastgate Street be renamed Estate Agent Street considering there are 9 :lorks: agents along its length?

From the Stafford Newsletter (online only) dated May 2024-
'Even though Stafford has merged with Stone, Hixon, Acton Trussel etc. Stafford borough Council are committed to protect the green and pleasant land that surrounds Stafford' said Cllr John Marwood as he announced proposals for a further 10,000 houses.

John Marwood

I ♥ cryptic crosswords
At 18 councillor John Marwood became the youngest council leader in the country after his election pledge to build 10,000 new homes in the tallest tower block outside London - Doxey Point, or as it's known locally , The Dirty Carrot. His father, also John, said something..

I have been told that Riverway will have the headquarters of Entrust (whatever that means) with some retired homes. Riverway itself will see lots of houses built where the Kingston centre is now. Of course there will be hundreds of houses for the army so Stafford will expand - not sure about 700 single lads descending on Stafford.

Didn't realise Acton Trussell was now in the Borough!

Entrust is the new name of Staffordshire Performing Arts I believe, not sure if it's been deffed out of the Council or not.

So if we accept the Burghal Hidage calculations of four men per pole* of wall to defend the burh - how many men would we now need?

I'm going to start with a guesstimate of quite a lot.

*ie 5 1/2 yards, not some sort of crazy ukip manifesto pledge

If you say the population is 100,000ish, then you might have 30,000 men available, at around 1,500 per mile required, so about 20 miles of adequate defences. Nowhere near enough for a full cicumferential defence, but, if the threat direction is sufficiently defined, them we might just get away with it.

The wall might be more of a problem, perhaps best to go for a dyke..?
