Artists from across Staffordshire are being encouraged to submit their work to the 22nd annual Staffordshire Open Art Exhibition 2012, organised by The Shire Hall Gallery in Stafford.
This prestigious showcase highlights the wealth of creative talent within the county of Staffordshire and provides an ideal opportunity for local artists of any age to display their work in a premier visual arts venue.
The Staffordshire Open Art Exhibition is one of the Shire Hall Gallery’s most popular exhibitions attracting over 15,000 visitors each year. The competition is open to artists of any age who were born in Staffordshire or who live, work or study in the county.
The gallery is delighted to announce that this year’s main prize of £1,000 is sponsored by SCHOTT UK Limited. Over 100 artists will get to showcase their work at the exhibition when it opens to the public.
Staffordshire County Councillor, Pat Corfield, Cabinet Member for Culture, Communities, and Customers said: “Staffordshire County Council are proud to support this exciting annual exhibition showcasing talent from all over the county.
“The show is an extremely important event in the gallery’s calendar as it promotes new talent and gives artists of all ages and abilities the opportunity to show off their work to the general public. The exhibition is incredibly popular with both new and established local artists with many succeeding in having work accepted.
“We always look forward to receiving a marvellous array of exhibits including, paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, sculpture, 3D mixed media and film & animation.”
All works must be original and produced within the last three years and should be submitted to the Shire Hall Gallery on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 April, during normal opening hours.
The Gallery will be closed for selection on Monday 30 April with the exhibition opening to the public on Saturday 19 May and will run until Sunday 8 July 2012.
Entry forms, including those for the under 16’s are available now from the Shire Hall Gallery, Market Square, Stafford or from your local Staffordshire library.
