Could you be the one of us to possibly consider having a swordfish steak for the purpose of this experiment?

Keeping in mind that swordfish will have travelled hundreds if not thousands of miles in a frozen state, depending on where it comes from, I don't really fancy the idea. Do you?

aye, can't wait to hear this.. me & ms. db keep meaning to check it out but i keep forgetting about it!
I've heard swan steaks come with a price. They'd better be worth it!
Two for £25.00 including a bottle of house wine. So, even if they're shonky, it's no great loss.
Sorry...it was a bad attempt at a bad joke about steaks from a swan. Unhappy Queen. Off with his head.

Shurely it was either a bad attempt at a good joke, or a good attempt at a bad joke?

I opt for the latter - i liked it. :)

Also look forward to your review Trumpet. Could one of you possibly consider having a swordfish steak for the purpose of this experiment?
Unfortunately not, I'm looking forward to a (hopefully) juicy bloody steak and Strumpet doesn't do fish.
So I'll leave that one for you. aalan also make a very good point in this respect.

It had briefly crossed my mind.

Booked in at The Swan for next Wednesday. Will report back.
I'll be interested in the feedback on this venture......
Well, Swan was pretty damn good. Had a table booked for 7.00, arrived 10 mins early and we were shown to our table straight away, (I was half expecting to be sat in a holding pen and offered drinks whilst waiting to boost their revenue).
The young waiter came and took our orders within minutes, very nice crusty bread, proper butter and olives to start went down well. The house wine was a very quaffable Chilean Merlot, could've easily gone for another bottle had it not been a 'school night'.
We both went for the 10oz rumps, Strumpet had veg and new potatoes whilst I had the chips. My steak was cooked perfectly, just as I'd asked for, the rare side of medium, still a bit bloody in the middle, very tasty too. The chips were bostin', big, crisp and golden on the outside, light and fluffy in the middle, onion rings, mushrooms and a grilled tomato. Very nice relaxed atmosphere and, even though it was busy, eg no empty tables, we weren't rushed out as soon as we'd finished eating in fact we sat for about 20 mins chatting after the plates had been cleared away without being disturbed.

It compares very well with The Bell at Haughton steak nights, The Bell does 'proper' 16oz steaks, you have a choice of chips, new or jacket potatoes and you get a dish of dauphinoise potatoes and a side salad as well but no crusty bread and olives. With a bottle of comparable wine it'll set you back £35.00 (2 x £10.95 & £12.95 the wine) instead of The Swan's £25.00, I think any choice between the two would be based on geography and or appetite rather than quality and value, you pays yer money..............

Will definitely be going back to The Swan soon though.
Edit to correct Bell prices

Thanks for this brilliant critique. I would imagine this will encourage plenty to give it a try - perhaps they should employ you in their promotions team. Will definitely be giving it a go - cheers

I thought after posting that it looked more like an 'advertorial' but was just telling it like it was, a thoroughly nice eating out experience.
Couldn't fault it.
