Thanks Withnail for the generous welcome !

I also listened to Stone FM, it was quite amusing and upbeat while it lasted. It seemed to make a big impression in its time. Let's see what becomes of Super

@Super-Radio - I did a bit for Stone FM (graveyard shift) some years ago which I enjoyed doing, but having 7 kids, chickens & doves, work, 3 wife's and a dog - hang on, I mean 3 dogs and a wife..... I just don't have the time to spare otherwise I would have loved to fill an empty shift for ya. If she ever boots me out 'n' divorces me though I shall let you know ;)
@wmrcompturers

Thanks again for these comments. I'll contact you personally and perhaps we can get together to discuss this further?

I was lucky enough to be involved in the first 4 Stone FM broadcasts, these did indeed create quite an impression from what I remember. Though the first trial in June 2000 could only be heard in the Stone area. After the 4th Stone FM trial broadcast, several of the team for various reasons, moved to Stafford and set up studios at Gaol Mews and broadcast 4 more trials as Stafford FM. The communications regulator of the time, the Radio Authority, said Stafford FM was one of the most successful RSL (Restricted service licence) radio stations they had ever licenced in terms of advertising and listeners generated. I'm surprised this has not been mentioned before but it was some time ago (2002-2003). This reinforced my own personal view from previous experiences and also demonstrated at the time that this area wanted it's own radio station - 7/8 years on I still believed this to be true.

I also enjoyed Stone FM which was quite refreshing in it's day. Stafford FM was also good, but a little bland at times. Forgive me being a newbie, but I'm going to dive in with both feet, and say that Super Radio isn't really doing it for me I'm afraid. Maybe they should consider approaching some of the DJs from the aforementioned stations to spice it up a bit. You've gotta admire them for trying and I hope it works but early indications seem somewhat mixed.

Linda, being a newbie is no excuse to hold back, speak as you find, but be prepared to back your stance against some awkward buggers - enjoy!

Hey Linda, good to see you on board!

Ray Crowther's running this Super Radio project, but wasn't he also running Stafford FM Radio as well ? Why the name change ?

Well it's not on FM for a start - which is a shame.

Yeah, see your point Withnail ;) But guess it could have been Stafford Radio. I also wish it was on FM, do you think this internet radio stuff will catch on ?

Unfortunately it won't catch on in either my kitchen or my car - these are my radio places. If people have PCs in every room, as seemed unimaginable with TVs not so very long ago, then maybe so.

Surfeit of choice may turn out to be as beneficial as a surfeit of lampreys. Sort of thing.

I must admit, I'd have preffered Stafford Radio too. It would have made it more obvious.

Hi guys the reason were not on fm is because there are no fm radio licenses going at the moment. we have chosen this platform so when we can apply for one when there are available we can say were already up and running etc...

Definitely a good plan which will help tremendously I'm sure when you are able to apply for an FM licence. To be honest I would expect that technology might place streaming radio's etc into cars anyway within the next few years. Technology moves pretty quickly.

Thank you everyone for being so welcoming. It's nice to be here but go easy on me, I'm new to all this...
Just going back to a point that Bobby Dazzler made earlier, My other half tells me that Ray Crowther was also behind a radio station more recently which was somewhere down the wolverhampton road. Don't know what it was called or what happened to it. Can anyone complete the puzzle?

Does anybody else find that the sound just cuts out occasionally? Earlier this afternoon, ~ 1.30 it just disappeared - why would this be so?

I'd think it will one day be the way to go. DAB is a dead duck and FM has obvious limitations. With a good internet radio stream you can have better then FM quality and no geographical restrictions (provided the 3g network improves). The more internet radio/live streaming to mobiles etc catch on the cheaper it will be to subscribe to an appropriate phone package.

Yeah it happens quite often, but that's not unusual for internet radio, though it seems to happen more often on Super Radio.

On another note, why is the stereo effect so weak on your stream? Compared to my fave internet stations (Absolute 80s and Jazz Radio France) it's really pathetic. Is that something you can tweak?

Internet radio caught on years ago, my parents listen to R2/3 online and have done for a while now, I listen online most of the time, unless i'm in the car. I also listen to some of the stations on www.di.fm daily and there are often tens of thousands of listeners online, although they are not all from the uk. I have been listening to that station frequently since at least 2004.

Internet radio is great and the quality of feeds now available in the broadband age is far superior to DAB and FM, so if you're into Hi-Fi then this is definitely the way to go.

I do hope the 3G network improves for this reason also as it would be great to get di.fm in the car, but it's just too unreliable. Saying that I haven't tried since I got my new phone. Shall give it a go later.

Think that was supergold, not sure where it went - but didn't think much of it, signal was rough. Anyone got more info ?
