What does a 12a mean exactly? My girlfriends 10yo son wants to see it, I was going to take him. Is it really that bad?

12a means an under 12 has to have an adult with them.

As I said earlier this is pushing the boundaries and I personally wouldn't take an under 12 to see it.

It is violent and there's also a lot of suggested violence.

A 15 classification would have been more apt

Yes, but violence with giant back-from-the-dead-through-the-miracle-of-DNA dinos is considered different from violence performed by people. especially since violence is perpetrated from both sides, heroes and villains.
